car insurance rip off

just renewed my van insurance . normaly just used to get a few quotes and get the best deal . then stick with them for years even if it went up a bit . being lazy I never bothered . 2 years ago went on go compare and got insurance a lot cheaper . used to pay 290 quid then last year found someone cheaper same insurance company different agent 225 quid this year they wanted same price till I told em I got a cheaper quote 165 quid guess what , they matched it even chucked legal cover in a lower excess and hire van if crash damaged .the thing is don't just stick with the same outfit every year or u will get conned . even with public liability and house insurance

If you cant be bothered to always get insurance through somewhere like Go Compare, and simply just renew with agent, then expect to be paying at least 25% more.

Got renewal this year (increased a good amount from last year), went on Go Compare, renewed with same company through the site, and saved around £150!

Lots of others far cheaper that what I paid, but none of them offered the additional things I got on my policy. When the same thing happened last year, contacted the agent, and accused them of being crooks etc (which they didnt deny!), but as I had already renewed with them rather than looking online, had paid more. Threats of legal action, meant they soon refunded the difference as well as giving a grudging apology.

I couldn't be bothered to change provider last time I had to renew so I just phoned them up and told them I had another quote that was X amount cheaper and asked them to match it. they put me on hold for 5 minutes and came back and matched it.

My renewal with Hastings was £280, went on Go Compare and got quoted £160 for Hastings with identical cover they were already giving me, phoned them up and told them... no problem sir, just give us the GC ref No and we will accept that amount, there must be a lot of people paying over the odds, which is actually a good thing or the rest of us could not find cheap quotes

what makes me laugh is they ask u how much the vans worth. I just say market value in good condition .yes but how much . I don't know u tell me .we need to know . yes but u wont give me the price I tell u if its wrote ofil have. they wont insure u till u answer the question

your lucky our insurance is a joke last quote i got was for 1,000 with no claims or anything even though im older

my friends quote was a joke as well for a note vehicle his quote was 1,000 this years quote it bounced to 1,300 so he looked elsewhere he was requoted 1,100

BUT you also have to make sure you read the small print you don't get until after you purchase.

You may remember my car was insured by Esure and they hid European cover activation in the small print......well now they are claiming the full years premium in case a third party makes a claim also allegedly in the small print.

As I said on the phone why would I insure a car that is in a breakers yards??

They just said read the terms and conditions that said in the event of an accident the premium becomes payable in full.

was this car involved in an accident then before the breakers yard, was this the bmw ?

I got my renewal figure last month, £295 against £265[ish] last year. Did the usual shopping around then phoned the Co and said I could get it cheaper, for exactly the same levels of cover, elsewhere.

"Hold on Sir, I'll see what I can do.........[pregnant pause ]....I can award you a loyalty bonus [ yeah, right] and it'd be £224." [That's full everything inc RAC's top cover, and with no voluntary policy excess, on a 3-litre BMW. ]

OK says, I, go ahead.

a mate was paying 500 quid for his what a KNOB managed to get him same cover of go compare for under 200 he been paying over the odds that for the last 4 years

My dad bought a car last week and wanted Gap insurance, the garage didn't do it so I shopped around on line for him. £20k cover for five years at a cost of £256, plus it's transferable if he changes his car.

The main dealer he bought his last car from provided £10k cover for 24 months for a cost of £600 and it's not transferable. I checked with the current provider with details of the old car and purchase price, it should have been around £90

I took over running my Mothers's finances a while ago and found she had her house insurance through her bank for £42 per month, 30 mins on the comparison sites and I found the same cover for £88 per year, saved her over £400.

Its really a waste of time phoning when you get a cheaper quote from someone like Go Compare. Best to simply get your insurance through Go Compare and reduce the amount of money going to the agent who was trying to rip you off.

The agents make an awful lot of money from customers who are lazy, and seems to me that this is getting very close to fraud, bearing in mind there is no good reason why buying the same thing from an agent should cost 25% more?

its a bit like payday loans and quick quid ect the rates and profit are shocking . they used to call it loan sharking and it was illegal . now u can hide behind a computer screen charge 10 times the amount and u don't even need to wear a mask

Why its not common knowledge that buying insurance through sites like Go Compare is the only sensible option if you dont want to line the pockets of these robbers, I find it hard to understand?

a lot of folk don't know any different and are set in there ways .years ago parents used to get all there insurances through a friendly guy that came every Friday night to collect payments . family followed suit till we wised up and got other quotes and realised u could get cheaper .everyones nice and friendly when they can take your money

That's normal if you pay monthly these days.

It's no longer an agreement with the insurance co., it's a loan. The finance company pay the insurance and you pay them back. As they have already given away the money, of course they want it back...

That's up to the insurance company to pay it back.........

BUT a couple of months earlier my car was written of by a lady running into the side. The day it was declared a total loss I cancelled the insurance and was even given a refund.
