Kemppi or similar mig welder

Looking to buy a new mig welder, was having a look at the kemppi miniarc mig 200, anyone have any experience of this machine. Or recommend anything, budget is around £1000. Look forward to hearing from you all.

I can recommend the minarc mig but there are plenty of others including multi function machines like the Jasic that was for sale on here or the ones weldequip has. Do some looking round and see of you can get a demo of what you might need.

Kemppi Minarc MIGs are very good machines, very useable. Only issue I have with them is the direct connection torch and the non generic consumables.

Are you needing portability? if not can I recommend taking a look at the new Parweld XTM 182i / 252i that are being released this week? They're very nice looking machines, well within your budget, synergic multi process, 4 roll feeder, 15kg reel capability. Only downside is they're not very portable in the sense of chucking it in a boot of a car but if they're being used in a shop / garage then its all good because they come with trolley as standard.

I am looking for something fairly portable if I'm honest. I was recommended the jasic mig 200, but not to familiar with the name. But as you say probably worth my time to go and have a demo of a few machines get a feel for them.

Jasic MIG 200 is a good machine, i've used it personally and enjoy it. A very basic Volts & WFS machine but it welds well.

Might be worth getting yourself a demo from your LWS, get them to sort you out an extra good price

Mostly will be used for welding up framework, upto 5mm thick box, and occasionally welding plate upto 10mm. Not sure if that help you or not.

Might want to look at a little more than 200A if you're going up to 10MM. I'm assuming you're on a single phase supply?

Yes, single phase. That's why the kemppi seemed a good path to go.

Might want to look at the machines around 250A/ 300A on single phase. 200A will struggle with 10MM unless its a multi pass / lots of edge prep.

Parweld XTM 252i / Thermal Arc Fabricator 252 etc.. Both machines would work but both not particularly portable.

You need a bigger set then esab 250 lorch 252 thermal arc fabricator Oxford and its variations etc

Most portables I know are up to 200 max you need 240 - 250 range and that means better cooling bigger set. Upside is also full size reels of wire

Kemppi are the top notch of welding equipment,sorry to rain on your parade,they are VERY expensive to repair!!

Think I will stick with something portable, all honesty if I get anything 8mm and above I can happily stick welding it. Going to go to local shops and test a few machines I think. Thanks for the recommendations.

Might be worth looking at the likes of the Miller 3-1 plant then, it's just outside your budget at present but only just

Yeah. Always worth taking your time over such things. Just don't go for the mobile unit unless it's needed
Mobile generally means 13 amp supplies and that in itself is Limiting.
Consider there are some blooming good stick lift tig inverters for sub 300 and that could leave 700 for a 32 amp sh transformer mig at base with a grand to spend

I know it's not normal, but my minarcmig has a euro connector on it, so as to be able to use any torch.

Fortunately I've not had to find out the the repair costs, yet!

It's done all I've asked of it, but that said, I'd most likely use an arc welder for 10mm workpieces.

When using it with a 16 to 13a adapter/flylead (which I've only done about half a dozen times) it's not yet blown a fuse, but then I can't say I was using it flat-out.

Much easier to use than my previous mig welder in every way, though. But it did cost more, too.
I'd still recommend it, from personal experience - but I've not used all of the welders mentioned above, so don't have any direct comparison with your other options.
