With a digital mic you don't make mistakes reading the scale wrong, and you can take incremental or absolute measurements, swap between mm and inch, which is something the vernier scale ones can't do. Mine even has a tolerance band feature. I'd have t0 ask the question why would you not?
Because as said before, the digital one seems finiky to get a number off, the one i was using, the numbers never seemed to stop moving.
