Hi,
I have a 10mm stud that is stuck in a fixing that consists of threaded nut welded into a steel ring. My hope is to remove the 10mm stud from the fixing but my efforts so far have failed.
I have given it a prolonged soak with plus gas and tried to use two nuts on the stud, once acting as a locking nut to try and remove the stud without success. My two remaining options seem to be a soak with 50% ATF/Acetone then the double nut approack again or heat it up.
If I go for heat, my concern is that I could weaken or break the weld that holds the fixing that the 10mm stud is stuck in. My two available options for application of heat are either spot heat with an electric soldering iron or the flame from a gas cannister type of flame used for plumbing. Both sources of heat are quite mild so I would be surprised if they could damage the weld, however, I thought it safe to ask, just to be sure.
Any alternative suggestions to remove the stud gratefully received. I have uploaded a picture of the stud and the fixing.
Thx
