Not at the wiltshire ones you can't...
Apparently shipping something to china to be melted down and made into cheap crap is far more 'environmentally friendly' than letting someone local get more use out of it.
I work for a recycling company.. one of the biggest ones..I did 10years on various sites ( tips ) all the ones around here have CCTV and that is viewed by the council and the company I work for.. up until about 4 years ago you could turn a blind eye but unfortunately the guys on the ground can't afford to anymore.. these company's put in place work procedures that you sign .. you breach it and it's instantly down the road ..
In somerset there are charges for gas cylinders price depending on if it's domestic or commercial
I would guess a letter to gas co, outlining storage charges for their bottles to be levied if not collected within 7 days of postmark of letter, would mean they are going to get picked up quite quickly?
@Chris Stevens
When my friend moved into a house in Warminster he found 2 Calor gas bottles and one Linde Argon bottle. He tried to dispose of them, Calor were not interested in collection. He wrote to them saying he will charge them for stowage.
Long story short, it ended up in court. Calor wanted to charge him rental frees etc. He refused to pay. In the court room my friend explained and provided prove that he was a new resident and had passed details of previous resident Calor, who admitted they had not chased or checked if there was rental agreement. Case was thrown out. But 1 year later Calor have not collected. They argue that they can only collect from the name on the rental agreement.
So we tried to take them to the recycling centres. That’s how we found out Somerset Council charge to take gas bottles. We ended up taking them to a Calor supplier, explained the situation. Reluctantly they took them. Only when they read the court papers that they were Calor bottles and they are responsible.
The Linde bottle went to a good home to a member on this site.
