Blimey, think I'll pass on that one, be a cracking buy for someone though...It's a lot more substantial, probably about double the weight.
It won`t be more than double the length of a Myford, MAKE room for it, you will not regret it!
A pallet truck will move it easily and I am sure with a bit of ingenuity you could get it on a trailer, what are mates for?
I am in the process of putting a 8`+ lathe in my small garage, it`s amazing what you can get in if the desire is there, of coarse I won`t be able to get in the bl**dy garage afterwards, but I will cross that bridge later
I'm thinking I could just sneak it in without her seeing...Well done that man, I don`t think you will regret it once you have recovered from telling your wife!
A fine lathe for the money
Can I quote you on thisSure she wont mind, after all she wants you to be happy
I'd like that twice if I could!!Just tell her you bought it for her, as you knew it would keep you happy therefore her happy
Tell her its cost saving, if you had purchased the Myford you would have had to upgrade in a couple of years anyway, this way you have skipped a whole iteration. Plus tell her of the good deed you have done for someone down on their luck. I am sure the wife will get over it in 40 or 50 years (well possibly not!) but now when she nags you can just go and play with your lathe!
It looks like a great purchase, did you get any tooling with it in the end?
I would also add you will be able to do a lot more on that that you could with the Myford and for less money.
I was going to haggle him down a bit but given his circumstances I'll just stump up the asking price.
If the price was higher Richard I would have done, however as it was priced very fairly in the first place I was happy enough to stump up. As you say, I'm happy with it so that's all that matters!
While I'm very pleased for you on the purchase dale people's circumstances that you will probably never meet again shouldn't fall in the way of a little haggle. Your too nice mate.
While I don't like seeing good folk out of work it's far more important for me to save £50-100 on a haggle and use that saving to keep the ship afloat.
Any way your happy and that's all that matters mate. Well done.
Thanks mate yeah I'm not one to boast but I'm very pleased with my progress so far. Id like to think I have threading down to a fine art and I have no trouble cutting to tight tolerance size either. If the price was higher Richard I would have done, however as it was priced very fairly in the first place I was happy enough to stump up. I haven't done any serious turning for about 20 years so it'll be interesting to see what comes of it. I'll be happy if I can get up to your standard as quickly as you have managed!! Look like you have turned out some great results with yours mate.
if the machines not shagged out it will be very accurate if set up properly .after all its supposed to be a model makers lathe . its harder to make small things than is a large itemThanks mate yeah I'm not one to boast but I'm very pleased with my progress so far. I know myfords are the Rtechs of lathes on here with a very even split down the middle of people's opinions but mine is great. It produces quality and accurate which are two musts for every thing I make whether it be welded, cut, bent or machined.
