No it hasn't, its been revoked but only for fairly new bikes fitted with ABS. If you want to import a 80's or 90's bike without abs your still stuffed.
The FFMC are still campaigning about this, as there is no link between power and accidents.

For this topic read that again. There is no link between speed/power and accident rate. The vast majority of bike injuries and fatalities happen at sub 30mph. Inconvienient for soapboxing but its fact.

There's some utter tosh being thrown about here, which is very amusing.

Bikes (even some boring 500 twin commuters) have been more than capable of topping 100mph for over 40 years now - yet it's only recently the factory chassis has really caught up. A factory bike made in the last 20 years is going to have superior stock 'suspension and brakes' than a custom built racebike from the 60s and not be a massive amount faster. To argue that race suspension and brakes are needed on the road is a clear sign that you probably don't ride, and that if you do it's on L plates.

Why argue to limit speed and/or power? Because "it's for your own good"? pffft.

Weren't there wars fought over people's right to make their own choices?

Face it, the smallest bike that is sensible to ride is a 250, anything under that is plain dangerous because it's so woefully underpowered (a couple of mental 2t 125s excluded) but even then you're on the limit just to keep up with average traffic.

My bike is far from the fastest, but it's still capable of around 130mph - what that means is it's comfortable (and therefore safer) to ride distance at 60-80mph than a bike that tops out at 90. The 'slower' one is always on the edge, always hard work and bloody tiring. Sometimes that's a giggle, but not for a 6 hour trip it's not.

Really, if you want a poxy little scooter then 'walk away' and get one (ditto track bike/sm/cruiser/whatever) and leave the rest of us to make up our own minds.

I nearly threw myself into the shrubbery more on my lightweight/stop on sixpence/cornered like a stabbed rat RGV 250 than any bike since, so I'm not entirely sure the less power/better handling thing holds much water, or maybe I just grew up?

Nonsense. Well set up and in capable hands they are fine on a lot of bikes for a hard ride. The zx10r suspension on the same year as the gsxr was miles better than the gsxr and needed very little doing to make it very usable with lots of power out of the bends. I rode my zx10 on stock suspension through many hard rides full throttle out of corner exits and it was very capable.
You might of been in the bike trade Chris but I think you lack actual riding knowledge on powerful machines as the dribble is drowning this thread. Go and ride a few and you'll see they are very capable even with a big twist of right on our lovely British roads. Some are poor and gsxr was known for needing an upgrade but even then, set up properly they were better than your describing.
It starting to sound a bit like "bags of sand" quote from 40year old virgin for those scratching there heads.

Ha, ha, far from it. I can arrive at junctions panting. Its like being in a slapping fight with a bike, everything happens at once, very busy, intense focus. I spend more time on the edge of the Huskys handling/braking performance, less margin for error
The Blade was not frantic, it was a different smoother kind of control.

After many years of riding I've found that the bike is far more capable than the average rider, British roads are not made for high speeds nor are most of the road users. I've ridden with people that are riding big bikes that are not safe on a 50cc and I've also ridden with people on small bikes(125) that could out ride every one in the group. As always the only time a motorbike(guns, knives, cars etc) is dangerous is when it is being controlled or surrounded by idiots. Find someone you like riding with and stay away from idiots. As for power, what a load of crap is talked about it, ride a VFR750/800/RC30/RC45, not a vast amount of power but they are FAST. I've had all size of bikes and feel the 600/750 for me is the best all round bike for our roads. Also the sound of the 600s does make the hair stand up more so than the larger bikes(Moto 2 being the case in point). Above all ride a bike that fits you and your riding style and ENJOY!!!
