calling Kemppifrog/2CVers

Hacking through the jungle on the hill behind chateau norlander, I found three sheds. I got to the first one but was too gruntfuttocked to cut through to the others.
Anyway, it looks like there are some 2CV? bits in there.

I could see a bumper (mangled) and I think there is a wheel , maybe two with studded tyres.
I'll have to rest up for a day or so now, but will see what comes to light in the other sheds.
Doubt if any of the 2CV stuff is useable now though.
Also found what looks like an old fly killer thingy ?-the little plaque said BUGATTI on it.

your right thats no longer saveable its nothing exotic either, a bog standard 602cc double barreled carb heavy flywheel 2cv engine. Black engine label makes it 70s 4th number is the year so '77

Dunno about Bugatti fly-sprays, but he did design a rather nice fighter aircraft. Two engines in line, but with a prop at each end.

There was (is still maybe) a bloke round here that has a tractor with 2CV motor, I don't know if its built from some sort of kit but its a tidy job, I saw him ploughing with it and took photos, but seem to have deleted them.

I saw one in a reclamation yard, came with a plough and rotovator. They wanted €600 for it. Looked neat.

Nope then it would have had AYA AM2 for Dyanes or AM for Ami both of which had a higher compression ratio, then came the Peugeot Citroen era where the model number became a numeral so you had AO6/635 and the like , The 650cc engine was a different beast altogether with a more squared off casting and Nikasil lined alloy finned barrels

they are but its a lot of work the 650 crank has a sort of extra bearing on the crank nose , there is no bearing liner as such just a journal machined into the casings. The pistons are larger and heavier and taking this in to account you can calculate a power loss over a tuned 602/ if you fit the 650 pistons in to machined 602 barrels then the wall is so thin it can suffer heat damage and distortion. they can also pink like ******** as there is an increased swept volume but the same head volume there by increasing the comp ratio. You can fit the 650 barrels to the 602 crankcase but you have to weld up the seats for the push rod tube seals then machine them flat to take the one piece casting from the 650 . The 602 is a better set of cases as they are die cast the 650s are sand cast. the 650 has some of the oil galleries cast into the mating flanges and can suffer leaks, 602 has drilled galleries. Finally the 650 has a basic electronic ignition thats prone to failure, there is plenty of choice of electronic ignitions for 602s they can be made to fit 65-s but again its either crappy adaptors or retro fitting a 2cv cam and machining the cases..

BMW "oil head" engines can be made to fit Pete Sparrow does a fitting kit or a full turn key service .the car is mental but totally drivable (they used Petes cars for the stuntsin the "Reds2 " film) film of Petes "Mule" giving some faster machines a fright during a track day...

Well as you see from the intial post, I have an engine, so we are good to go then

Good ole aircooled twins, there was a bloke in Bemsse, running in the MZ250 2s singles class, he would enter the open class races and annoy the hell out of the big boys at some tracks.

always reminded me of the bubble car song, in the open, the big boys would dust him down the straight, but then at Druids, or Gerrards- ming ming ming- he was up their chuff, or diving under em, pmsl.

However,
what you have there could be a very old rim off an early ripple bonnet car from the 50s which had 16" (or metric equivalent) if there is raised flats at the stud holes its a Pugeot rim which was almost a straight swap. Whatever, it certainly pre dates the engine by a good few years.

The jokers in the pack were the 4x4 mehari (plastic Moke like utility on a Dyane running gear) which had wider 15" rims to take wider tyres and the "Sahara" (on wider 16"), a 4x4 twin engined model which was developed for oil exploration in North Africa, it was used by the Spanish police and was also popular with rural types, they are the holy grail and change hands for stupid money

It's a small world, Pete lives about 5 miles from me

Méharis go for serious money here. Bloke on the Isle de Ré tidies them up & sells them on. Wanted €24K for a zero miles one last year. €10K is common. I drove one for a bit in Portugal, pretty horrible driving position. My previous was a '58 car and a '72 van. Fun and did the job. Sometimes said that a 2CV is transport, but a Renault 4L is a car...I had 12 of those and enjoyed them, very suitable for Iberian roads.

Sean, we have a couple of 'ripple bonnets' used around here as daily drives. I saw a similar van today, but too well polished to be a daily. My van was an ex Belgium postal yellow one. They sold them off cheap (£120?) back in '76. Did me OK for a couple of years. I then bought an R12 break. You might laugh, but it was equally indestructable over 300k KM.
