Ford Ka rear wheel bearing

What are they like to replace ? My grand daughter has one and it's cooked the rear wheel bearing. I took the wheel off and had a look but only had a couple of spanners with me so going back up in the morning with a boot full of tackle to have another look at it

Is it an older model or newer fiat 500 version?

It's an older one 06 1.3.

Simple job, wheel off, knock out centre cap with a screw driver (should be replaced) hub nut off (30mm) pull drum off, if it has abs the pick up ring needs to be prized off by working round with a pry bar, remove large circlip and press old bearing out and new back in. Pick up ring will just tap back on carfully as to not damage it. Hub nut should be 235nm if I remember correctly

The ABS ring can be made to fit easy by placing it in boiling water.
A few taps will seat it.

Seems to be a mix of both, early ka and fiesta has a pair of taper and newer has sealed ball bearings

It doesn't sound too bad then thanks. I'll take the hub off and take it home to get the bits fitted by the sound of it that will be easiest. She will miss a half day though as she is 60 miles from work and can't get in without the car. I'll see which set it has when I get it dismantled.

My 2000 fiesta has taper. My girlfriend's old.ka had taper. Must of been whatever they could find in the parts bin.

Job done by 10.00 a.m. Hardest bit was getting the drum off it was well stuck but a lot of hammering, chisel and pry bar got it free. Should have taken the slide hammer with me but it was 18 miles from home so had to improvise. It was two taper bearings and the reluctor is just a flat ring like another grease seal.

With the bearing cups, place in freezer for an hour, lub with cooper grease. Pour boiling water over the drum and press in. will slide in a treat.
Just done Neighbours Vauxhall Magnum.

When you are 18 miles from home in a barn on a farm in the middle of nowhere you have to improvise a bit with what you have in your bag of tricks I knocked the bearing race in using the old one and a socket on top of a 9" concrete block, the new bearing came with grease, I don't use copper grease for lubrication it is purely anti seize for threads and mating surfaces.

I think we are confusing each other.
I meant to say, copper grease on the outside of the bearing cups, the side what mate with the hub. That were you need the anti seize grease.

I understand that the new bearings come with grease, did you have enough. The magnum kit did not.
such is life.
