fzr600r re-commission?

Hello everyone, I have a 1995 Yamaha fzr600r that hasn't moved in 18 months. It's been dry stored and I changed the oil and got it running about 8 weeks ago, had to jump start it as battery was dead. What would you be checking/replacing before I send it for an mot?

Id be looking at brakes. You dont want them sticking in the on position en route to mot man if you have to brake hard.

Chain any tight sized links, all depends what the bike was like before you threw it in the corner. All cables and linkages are free and lubricated.

Plus all the normal things.

As above, brakes, shocks, suspension, swing arm pivots, chain, fork seals.. fork oil too if there has been any loss..... probably due for oil change too? Wheel bearings

Tyres should be on radar for a close inspection with pointy stick of course, and be easy on them because they might be going off and stiff as old boards without much traction. This might apply even if they look ok visually, they have a shelf life and degrade with age. Just take it easy on them bearing this in mind rather than dropping back into old corner heroic habits.
I'm waiting on delivery of a 30 year old vehicle with its original boots still (military bar grip tyres), they'll be like glass by now even if they aren't perished to bits. Which is why I'm waiting for it to arrive on a transporter...

Brake fluid-it can be hydroscopic or some such posh word, they could seem to work ok pushing the bike around but any water can boil off under braking I read somewhere, never seen it, but I'd purge em and put fresh fluid in em?.

my old man has just mot'd his 1200 bandit after it sitting for 4 years...i ran through it all one day for him while he was in work...things i found were tyres needed renewing, discs were very rusty so they were replaced, collector on exhaust was rusted through so needed welding up (which i did for him), the battery was dead (luckily we work in a factory that makes them ) and it needed the carbs cleaning and then re-balancing. after that i took it for a fairly quick 50 mile rin on the way to the mot'er and it passed.

The best way to get a bike out of storage is to give it a thorough service before you put it into storage. A thorough wash and clean, clean and lube the chain, strip and service the brakes ,change the oil and filter, fill the tank with fuel so there is no space for evaporation. Lube the lock sets and spray a good coat of your favourite preservative oil over the bike.
I stored a yammy 600 like this for 2 years and all I had to do is check the tyre pressures and fit a new battery.

kind of...im insured on my old mans bandit, purely because he didnt have time to take it for the MOT so i did instead and gave it a good blast afterwards to blow the cobwebs out of it and me...god i miss my bandit...

with the mrs being laid off and now working for an agency another car is once again more important as she doesnt know how far she will have to travel for work and i cant be without a car with the little un running around and hurting himself (as they do), plus a mile and a hafl walk to school in the torrential rain isnt anyones idea of fun.

i was supposed to start recieving my payrise this month but its been delayed until next month now because HR are useles and arent capable of updating the system to say im now a grade higher, but once that kicks in im hoping for around 1k a month that i willl no direct need for so new car, new bike, new house etc...

That was my first BIG bike, I only put fresh fuel in and oiled the chain after the winter lay up. Never had any issues until the wife dropped it ! That's another story

Clutch..... forgot about that.... easy enough to rebuild though iirc, soon learn to be gentle

I do like the fzr600r not as my as my r1 though I'd check brakes, tyres, chain, and suspension, the rest won't be too bad I wouldn't imagine. Mines due for a new clutch shortly but I think I'll be going to a Barnett pressure plate and Kevlar plates next

I wouldn't go tl1000r if you value your life, scary things to ride, and the fast you ride, the worse that back shock gets
