A couple of years ago and bought myself a R-Tech DC TIG but my old cheap auto mask I used with my MIG was not good enough so I bought a Weldline Eagle for around £50, it was a slight improvement. but I struggle with this, on low amps TIG mostly.
Yesterday and today I have been trying to weld some 1mm stainless steel sheet at low amps and it has not gone well ! mainly by me not being able to see the puddle or holes in my case and being dazzled with occasional flashes and with struggling to focus through the lens.
In desperation I tried an old fixed lens from my stick welding days and could see a lot better but only when I had guessed where to start the arc which is no good to me.
So I am going to splash out on another auto mask but obviously want to see an improvement. I only do this as a hobby but it is hard enough to do without my mask problem.
I do wear my varifocals under my mask but today nothing looked very clear through the mask even before I started welding and the lens is clean.
I am thinking of paying up to around £100 for a mask and getting a known make this time ones I have got in mind are.
Lincoln Optrel Phantom extreme
Lincoln Electric Screen 2
Esab Warrior
Speedglas 100 s-10 (Seems to be available from Germany only and is non adjustable)
This is mainly for TIG, any other recommendations please besides pack it in and take up wood work.
Thanks
Pete
