Colour codes for underground conduit

Ah just seen the edit. Not really a huge cost depending on the kit capabilities you already have. Fibre is standard on all of my switches at home.

if you chuck as you say a phone cable in with the power cable you will have a buzzing on your phone when there is power running through the cable, id guess its not going to do your ethernet any favors either.

But the power cable is only for a genny that is a backup supply that runs a handful of times a year, 99.9% of the time it will be sat there with nothing running through it, surely that won't cause a problem ?

Will the phone cause interference with the ethernet and visa-versa ? that's the only pair that may be active at the same time.

@bump how much would it be to for a run of 70m fibre with media convertors at either end, ideally 100Mbit or Gbit but I suppose I could manage with only 10Mbit if it is a lot cheaper.

I'll get some up to date prices for you in the morning, what size ducting are you going for? As you may be able to use multimode in a preassembled form. The price difference between 1Gb and 100Mb is minimal.

Probably 50mm or more inside diameter, a ball park figure for fibre will do, are we talking more or less than 100 quid ? If more I'll be sticking with Cat5e or Cat6.

im not an electrician so bear that in mind here.

if your happy enough that there is going to be damn all times the power will be going down the cable sitting beside the phone cable then fire away, id be the kind that something like that id just annoy me.
there will be a buzzing sound from the phone tho if the genny is running if they are side by side.
mind you, if you did seporate them a mtr apart and happened to cross them over on either end then you would still get the interference.
the phone and the ethernet interference will take a smarter man than me to tell you tbh.

you mentioned cat 5 or 6, i run cctv cables in the yard here through ducting, i searched for a right while to find a suitable duct grade cat 6e cable with the right core as well as i was running ptz controls in the same cable as the picture so again i wanted no interference, there is a box of it lying in my attic but i forget the exact spec of it altho my picture is crystal clear even tho i have ptz down the same cable.

i used rolls of 2" orange ducting with a drawstring already in it, saves a lot of faffing about.
any time id pull another cable through it id pull a new drawstring as well so i always have one in the duct.

Would it be possible to come close to my £100 budget using 2nd hand 10Mb kit off ebay ? And if so what's the best to go for ?

I'd prefer to use fibre rather than ethernet just for lightning protection, most of the time when there is lightning near here the master phone socket gets zapped (that's with everything unplugged from it), but we have also had other bits of kit damaged by nearby strikes.

The pre terminated cable is the costly bit.

That's using 100Mb kit.

There isn't much 10Mb about, and the cost is really in the fibre in sub 10Gb.
