Is it cellulose or 2K...?

The paint has no clear coat and when polished by hand, paint transfers to the polishing cloth. Car was painted around eighteen years back.

It's definitely cellulose?

The way to tell is put a little celly thinner on a cloth and give it a rub celly will transfer to the cloth easily 2k wont

all that tells you is its solid /direct gloss

yeah you can try a little wipe somewhere hidden with thinners , celly will go sticky and start to come almost instant , 2k wont do alot at all

2k was certainly readily used back then so if it looks half respectable, it probably will be. Celly on the other hand 18yrs old will look quite drab by now.

yeah agreed , unless its from a museum celly would be getting rather tired now

Thanks gentlemen Just been to Halfrauds and purchased a tin of cellulose thinners as suggested. There is no reaction with the paintwork whatsoever, so it's been painted in 2K direct gloss I guess. Although I did think the paint would be a little harder, being 2K it shouldn't really come off when polishing?

Colour will always come off if you use an abrasive polish same with clear but you can't see it
