Scouse and Welsh are both similar in the fact that to speak it you have to have a bucket of flem every morning at breakfast otherwise you run out in the afternoon. the moisture content in the air in livpoool and most welsh towns is very high

I must say, I have no aptitude for languages. Mrs Dan is Hungarian and has been trying valiantly for years to teach me. I can say thank you, yes, no, and strangely,pig. And that's my limit. I do try, I just can't absorb it

I do actually get a rollocking off her grandma every time we go to visit for not speaking the language yet. She doesn't speak a word of English, but it's true, speak loudly and point enough and you can make your point in any language

I find that unless I'm in Spain I can't really speak Spanish, but after a day or 2 of being there I start remembering things...I can however say donde esta la bibliotecha? Although that's probably spelt wrong

Well, according to google translate the welsh have no specific words for 'welder', 'car' or 'hamster'...

There is however a phrase for 'serial killer'.

It is strange when listening to welsh people when they havnt got a word for something speaking the word in pure English most of the time not in a welsh accent!!

ive always found that funny, although the last time i was in germany the same thing happened...the guy we were travelling with could speak german but not very much of the technical stuff with 48 letters to a word, so the lads building our robots took to saying the technical words in english, then the rest in german...no idea why as they could speak fluent english as we found out when they came over to fit our new lines...

Yeah even some germans cant understand technical german I think some of it would be quicker to say in english
I had a german girlfriend and asked her to translate some tech stuff and she could'nt.

I'm going to make the effort this year and try really hard to learn to rite --------- propper english

I can do it in french, from painful experience of a renault van loosing its cambelt.
On a o/t note, did you know that the monkey with the big blue testicles and bright red pen** is the head honcho of the monkey pack? They actually wrote that on the info panel for the monkey enclosure at Limoges Zoo, in both english and french, just to be sure the kids weren't in any doubt.

Maybe it's just me, but I think learning welsh is a waste of time and effort.

Making it a part of the curriculum is plainly silly

Having lived a huge part of my life in Cornwall, where the heritage is being destroyed by holiday homers I disagree. I wish I knew more Cornish beyond the phases I picked up. If I get the chance to move back I'll be studying the language.

Well when I was taugh German it was "Der flippenflappenmuckenschpredder"

Maybe it's just me, but I think learning welsh is a waste of time and effort.

Think about it, even those who are fluent in welsh just use english until an english person walks in the room. Then, the language is just an excuse to be racist.

I live on the Llyn which is generally said to be the area where Welsh is spoken the most and I've yet to experience any of that type of behaviour but perhaps that is because they are talking in Welsh to begin with, around here Welsh really is used all day, it's their primary language and not used just to be rude.

In my experience they are happy if you try a bit of Welsh but they are friendly enough even if you can only really speak English, I think a lot depend upon whether they see you as someone who is here to live, work and be part of the community or just another English person buying a holiday home and not adding anything to the local community.

I wish they would stop all this dual language rubbish, just print all the road signs and place names in Welsh only, after all we all manage in the rest of the world where the signage isn't bi-lingual.
