MACH EXHIBITION 2016

We make some CC/CV machines, some 230v and 400v Tigs and also I think they are also going to take the 400v Pulse mig range. Basically it is everything that we used to make for Thermal Arc/Victor/Thermadyne.

We no longer make anything for them at all, after the takeover all welding machines were branded as ESAB, but we now only make for the USA and Canada. None of the European ESAB product is anything to do with us.

Yes I had a inkling it would go that way so I didn't bother.

I was surprised EWM hadn't even been shortlisted as a finalist as they were in the same category that I nominated us in originally, but then I thought that maybe he didn't bother with the presentation part either.

They were short listed for best machine supplier which I thought they could be in with a shout for as the only other nominees that were there don't compare to them in my books. Mr Cauchi was none too happy at all, as you can imagine.

You would need to create a hell of a lot of enquiries that turn into sales to even come close to recouping that and unfortunately it's a price that's too much for most UK represented manufacturers as it simply doesn't add up when you compare it to costs for regional/national exhibitions in Italy, France, Belgium, Netherlands etc which get three or four times the footfall at about 50% the cost.

When I was with ABB we did the Automan (Automation) exhibition at the NEC, sales were so poor they decided to put their own display on at the Milton Keynes HQ and invite anyone they thought might be a customer.

Once upon a time the AWD and Manufacturers were always at loggerheads. Manufacturers had their own association so didnt need the AWD. As the industry has shrunk they have come closer together but not necessarily as friends. I dont know why Lincoln got booed but its no shock.

Weldex got too greedy. After the last one the major welding firms agreed not to do another and surprisingly the agreement has held. These days the costs run to millions so they only do Essen and push the boat out.
In truth exhibitions are never a commercial success and are more of an Industrial "mines bigger than yours". The last Weldex we decided to make it make money and took orders on the stand. They were orders we would have got anyway and we had to give bigger discounts to do it.........pointless really but we could claim to have covered the cost.

At one show I was stood there when the President (of Lincoln) came up to me and said "Hi Al, how you doing"......me "Im fine and you".......President "good and whats your biggest problem" Me "my effing feet are killing me........but if you mean about work"

I did Weldex when it was in Harrogate before it moved to the NEC.

Been in that neck of the woods today and had I known this was on then I would have gone for a look as I cleared site at 1pm.. Really struggled to get a hotel so it must have been a decent show.

Used to be Weldex on it`s own,due to the falling numbers they joined with the MACH team.Good to see it keeping on going

It's nothing to do with the Weldex. After the last Weldex,There was a period of about 13 years where there was nothing.

It is now organised by The AWD, (association of welding distributors) and the welding area of Mach attributed to welding is called The Welding Village.
