Back to this again....

I'm trying to work out tonnages we need as we are looking for a new machine now rather than used.
Do the same principles apply as per the air bending chart for P/B tooling?

So say I want to bend 100*12 flat to a 90 with a sensible rad, can the tonnage be worked out off the same chart..I'm not sure it can?

The principle is the same as pb, forgeing a convex tool into a concave tool with a pice of metal I between. Can't see why you would work it out any different

Yeah, same mate, if you use the same principle... vee block and punches.

108t for 1m of 12 in a 100mm vee...16mm rad...

Say 12~15t for a bit of 100x12 with a sharp internal bend...

I wouldn't rate Baileigh gear in an industrial environment TBH, happy to be corrected.
There's an odd couple of used machines but they are either a bit small, or not quite what we want.
Looking at new Bendhor and Sahinler ones at the moment. 20T should be ok on that basis then, the issue being the ram is under the bed, V is vertical so the wider (or higher) the flat is, the more likely then bend goes wonky when you are at the limit of the machine.

Machine tooling isn't really my area but Chiviotts have helped me source customers some decent gear in the past.

So what's the verdict then? I'm looking at getting one of these. I used to work at a shop with a horiz. bender, can't remember the manufacturer but it was a great bit of kit, surprising how much you use it when you've got it

Yeah, handy bit of kit. Not used a massive amount, but invaluable for certain jobs. Can very quickly make tooling for it for bespoke jobs.

Thanks. Can I ask a couple of questions? Am I right in thinking the tooling is only 115mm high? My old machine would bend up to 200mm plate which is more realistic for my use. Also wondered if extra tooling was hard or expensive to get hold of but sounds like you've just been making your own.

The tooling is 120mm high on this one, so obviously limits what you can bend. We have a press brake so can bend wider in there - we bought this for making up heavy brackets mainly - a regular job - so this machine is ideal for that as it saves ruining the press brake tooling. You can get other models that have higher tooling/more tonnage.
The tooling for ours is easy to get hold off but not cheap as can be expected. I've made various radius tools for pressing saddles, straightening section etc - quick and easy.

Thanks for that. I'm looking for something to make angle brackets etc with as well but I think I need to be able to bend 150x10/12 really to make it useful.
