Torch Liners

Last night I was rummaging through my draws and found these;








As my current torch (MB15 cheapo Parweld) is a bit flaky, are any of these suitable to fit to it for fiddling with alloy welding ?
I don't remember buying them (age setting in, had to buy my first glasses last week too )
PVC one is just a liner, teflon one has some form of collet with it.
Hopefully one or the other is useable as it'll give me an excuse to get a decent new torch!

They look like standard liners, the collet should fit over the liner at the wire feed end and acts like an olive to clamp the liner in position in the euro connector, a standard steel liner usually has a brass ferrule crimped on instead,
Both can be used for ally although the teflon one is probably better, there's nothing wrong with Parweld torches they are found in most welding shops nowadays, parts are interchangeable with Binzel and cheaper too

The label on the bottom pic says it's a teflon one, that's the one to fit for alu wire
The other label says pvc so I assume it's just a standard liner.

sorry to hijack your thread but can you use a steel liner for Alu wire??

Aluminim tends to drag as its fed, as the wire is pushed by the feed roller any drag can cause the soft wire to snag and make a birds nest at the feed, also the steel liners shave the wire and block up with ally dust, not saying you wont get away with it for a small job, but feeding ally wire you need all the help you can get. a "soft" liner, pvc or teflon is best.

Well i will see how i get on tomorrow. ive just got to do some welding on some engine cases if it gives me too much trouble il get a teflon liner.

Teflon is really the only one to use for alu wire.
The problem with migs with fixed torches is it's a bit of a fiddly job to change the liner. With a euro torch it's a quick, easy job, remove the torch, unscrew the nut, pull the liner out, fit new liner, refit the nut, refit the torch, it's almost as quick to change it as to describe how to do it .

What brand of torch do you use?
On the Binzel ones at work the liners are always supplied overlength so you have to put liner in, cut off excess, remove liner trim another 15mm (for diffuser) clean up on grinder then finally install (need a "knackered" smilie!)

Hehe, ok so I'm talking once you've already cut them to the correct length, swapping between liners is dead easy from then on .
Still far easier on a euro fitting than a fixed one though.

Thanks guys, not sure about the pvc jobbie so I'll give it a miss but reckon I'll have a go at putting in the teflon job (basically I'm just devising a way into justifying a new torch )
