Hi, can anyone tell me what size the heads are on horseshoe nails please, I am hoping that there is a size about 6 mm square, they aren't for a horse but as decorative fixings on an oak cabinet I am building,the square heads will replace square ebony plugs a la Greene and Greene style ,

They might be a bit thick in the wire? It's not hard to make old type nails forged! Sorry but I lack the mandrel and making one will take way longer than a few nails

You should be able to find some close to that size, but I wouldn't fancy my chances of putting them into oak as they are very soft.

Hi, they would be fitted into predrilled holes and cut down,
thinking of it the heads would be better sized at 4 to 5 mm square, the info I can find on the net gives length but not a corresponding head size.

Head shapes are usually rectangular, not square, Do you know anybody that could turn some square bar to have a round shank. leaving the head whatever depth you need,

I ddint know that,that's a minor design change then if they are available in the 4,5 mm size ,it would still work,I recently aquired a metal lathe but don't fancy making about 30 of them,

Once you got the lathe set up. 30 would not take very long at all.

Notice the points. They are only tapered on three sides, so they bend when you drive them home. That way they exit the horses foot so you can twist them off and clench them over to hold the shoe on. And there's not a lot of people know that! (except farriers of course)

If you need any info there is a farrier supplies, a bit like a cars motor factors but for horses, right across the road from the missus garage it only 1/2 mile from my house.
they should have all the info.

I think the nails are made by mustad. They make fishing hooks and the like too. You might be able to find some online.
