Are Toolstations own cheap brand reciprocating saw blades value for money ?

Answer.

No, all the teeth melt off, and the 40 x 40 x 3 box section that you have been cutting up with real blades no problem all day yesterday remains barely scratched.

I agree, tried a packet a while back and couldn't understand why the teeth were melting off, then mate gave me a hilti demolition blade that went through the same material with out issue. Took the tool station blades back for a refund

The cheap packs of reciprocating saw blades from Aldi & Lidl are surprisingly well wearing including the metal cutting ones, but alas you only get one of each type of blade in a pack.

I now buy packs of decent branded reciprocating saw blades, because the longevity when set against cost works out to be the most economical way.

However, don't throw away worn out reciprocating saw blades, with a bit of sheet steel and an adjustable tree tie you can convert them to aerosol holders for shaking rattle cans of paint

I bought 25 Starrett blades from US Ebay a couple of years ago, and still got quite a few left now. The cheap and nasty ones which seem so common here, are maybe ok for cutting wood or plastic but give up the ghost pretty quickly if you try cutting metal.

Tool station took them back and refunded without the receipt, ( I have got a customer account though ).

Good customer service, but not selling crap to start with would be a better way to do business.

They are not alone in selling rubbish...............how many customers actually complain? Cant be that many or else the cowboys selling junk would be out of business.............

They are only interested in the lowest possible price............sadly cheap poorly made rubbish which is cleverly advertised, does seem to be regarded in a completely different light..............

I've found a lot of Toolstation "cheap" stuff to be pretty poor to be honest (You have to be careful as a lot of it is Silverline junk, though it's sometimes not obvious from the catalogue), on the other hand I've found Screwfix "own brand" stuff (Erbauer) to be fairly decent and reasonably priced. I've got a belt sander from there some years ago which is pretty decent, and recently bought some reciprocating demolition blades which are also not bad.

I ordered 10 top brand blades off eBay for a pound each, which beats even Erbauer, or anything else. .322030303759

Quite expensive using the sabre saw on metal, I'm going back to the grinder in future.

I have only used Bosch or Dewalt branded blades, don't think I will be trying the cheep ones.

Like all brakes they cut faster and last longer with some lubricant.
