32A IP44 plug & socket for 24v ?

I know the normal way would be to use Anderson plugs but would a red 5 pin industrial plug & socket be capable of being used to connect aux batteries to the on board batteries of my mobility scooter ?

I've used them in the past for connecting 12v draw loads (under their rated amperage), so I don't see why not provided your not putting more current through than they are rated for.

I can't help but feel that in weeks to come we are going to see some sort of headline involving a supped up mobility scooter.......

they do a low volt commando plug, i believe its a light purple colour

I am with rory1, a decent wholesaler should have the purple ones in stock or be able to get hold of them pretty quickly.

I should have added I am interested in the 5 pin as that would allow me to use use 2 pins for 24v connection direct to batteries, 2 pins for 12v connection to step up module that will allow trickle charging from car alternator when traveling (in trailer via towing electrics) and the large earth pin being redundant.
I've got one of the purple sockets on the back of my Disco that was put on there by a previous owner and can see the pins are same size as the far cheaper 5 pin plus I'd then need two purple for my needs.

The Purple plugs/sockets will cost more as they are not that common compared to the Red plugs/sockets.
The colours are only convention to help identify what voltage is likely to be present so you may be disappointed if you plug in a 3 phase welder
I've used "mains" voltage plugs/sockets on cars because like you, they suited my needs.

Are the pins on the 32a larger than 16a ? This is on all industrial type plugs and not just three phase.

id say you will be big enough for 24v with a 16A plug and socket.
the 32a version is a lot bigger in size.

IEC 60309 standards

16A line pins are 5mm & earth 7mm
32A line pins are 6mm & earth 8mm

Chickened out in the end and have bought a load (10) of Chinese rip off 50 amp Anderson connectors off eBay that work out at less than £1 each

I've got some genuine Anderson of the same size so I'll be interesting to compare the Chinese to them "side by side".

Chickened out in the end and have bought a load (10) of Chinese rip off 50 amp Anderson connectors off eBay that work out at less than £1 each.

I have very successfully waterproofed them for outdoor use, glue lined heat shrink the wires on to the terminals and use the rubber boots to cover the wires onto the body, smear the contacts with dielectric grease and use the rubber caps when not in use.. will make them lots more resilient for outdoor use.
