Why does this country have to be so awkward.

I had some advice from here about trunking recently but soon realised I needed to by from an electrical supplier not screw fix and that the mini trunking was enough for what need. BUT a visit to my local supplier denmans showed something weird.

Not only are they more expensive than tool station but the cables prices are nuts.

Twin and earth 2.5 is 47 quid but cheaper at Toolstation in fact everything was cheaper at Toolstation.

I then realised I actually needed conduit cable so priced up 100 metres of 3 colours and it is 20 quid per colour.

Why is it more expensive without the extra PVC round it....? OK so it needs a bit of packaging but not that much.

What do the leckys on here pay for 100 metres of twin and earth and single colour 100 metres rolls?

Singles from wholesaler was £15 a drum, but I get a stupid amount of discount.

20mm conduit was cheaper, by a lot, from ScrewFix, but City matched the price.

I think City have a deal on T&E at the moment.

Only reason I stopped using them was because they dropped MK stuff, which was a shame..

The problem is if you ask for 3 rolls of 2.5mm conduit wire they will charge DIY prices but if you ask for 6491X you get quoted sparky prices , I got some 1.5mm recently at £9 a 100m

I only pay 25 to 30 quid a roll of 2.5mm and 15 quid for 1.omm twin and earth if I buy a fair few rolls at autojumble . coppers down in price buying it from wholesalers

why bother with singles just run twin and earth through the trunking and conduit . its cheaper and quicker to install

I thought the correct way was to use individual strands. I am fine either way.

I might even have some in my garage but finding it is gonna be the hard part. Lol

I am more likely to have 1.0mm lighting hanging around to be honest. The reason for wiring it a up now is so I can build a croft or whatever it's called to get more crap out of the way. Lol

I think I hit the jackpot today as my son had an Indesit tumble dryer with a duff pump for sale he was storing in my garage and we just had an offer for it ,so that is a lot more real estate I can claim back i hope. Lol

it makes no odds wiring in twin and earth in conduit or trunking unless u need more cables down a pipe then use singles or strip the outer insulation off if its tight down the drop

Is it OK to have bare earth inside the trunking then?

I take it back about hitting the jackpot. Some joker wants to pay 15 quid for a tumble drier and me to deliver it to Malvern....about 100 mile round trip. Are these people on speed...lol

just slip earth sleeving over it if its only a few meters and the cables would be tight. u can easily get a couple of 2.5mm twin and earth cables down a 20mm conduit

I find Newey and Eyre very good.

FWIW, I don't expect to get cheap wire, because I am not a spark, in the same way I like to think I get better discount from motor factors because I am actually in that trade, and spend with them every month.

I do appreciate that mate but surely they can beat screw fix and tool station prices.

I have to say as mad as it sounds you need to negotiate on most things you buy over the counter these days. That includes regular suppliers one tool tried to charge me forty quid for ten lengths of m10 allthread the other day - shop there a few times a week!
Total when I walked out £ 11! That was a bit strong and should have ceased buisness with them full stop but I needed them there and then
The above firm wants me on account but that's never going to happen most firms will work a few sly ones through when they can
