driving Parallel Flange Channel into the ground

do you think this is possible to drive a 2m length of 100x50x10 1m into the ground?

it is to bolt a timber too for a fence

Depends entirely on the type of ground.
If it's peat it will go in with little effort, if it's solid rock then ..............

What sort of ground have you got?

am I reading it right? that you want to drive a 2m long post 1m into the ground for a fence post? I must be misunderstanding, I can't think of any reason why you'd need to go so deep for a fence post. All of mine, went in no more than 400mm with a bucketful of concrete each, none of them have moved at all.

or have I got the wrong end of the box section...

right I cant get a wooden one in the ground there because the neighbour has a old vine they don't want to loose so I want to bang in a metal post then bolt or screw a timber post to this

you can get fence post spikes that you put on the end of the pst and then drive thespike into the ground

i think the answer depends entirly on what your hitting it with...... with a hydralic helper most things can be beaten into the ground upto the desired depth

I want to see a picture of you hoisting the 14 pounder. We used to use 11 pounder for breaking core irons in the foundry and nobody rushed to volunteer.

Wierdly, I love swinging the 14lb-er.
Ive been smashing up a concrete slab for last two days.

Maybe I'm just destructive.

Id love to get a month's "hard labour" breaking rocks in a quarry.

Maybe I just crave exercise

I did a job last year - cuttjng a doorway through a double thickness (16") solid breezeblock wall.
Cut the outline with a stihlsaw, then watched the bloke who was supposed to be doing the job spend an hour trying to break it up with a kango.

10 minutes with the 14lber (might be a 16?) and I was done.

Compact post driver devices do exist. Maybe worth enquiring whether a local fencing contractor has one, because daily rate from big tool hire companies could work out rather expensive for just one post.

I hear all these people who "love swinging the 14 pounder" but I never see any evidence of it We used the 11 pounder and you didn't swing it so much as lift it up and let it drop, hopefully near to what you were trying to hit. Cut the end off a co2 cylinder and weld two handles on and you have a post knocker.

Yes perfectly possible. Use a digging spike first, if there is abig rock you gotta move location a bit or dig it out
