Long term reviews of welding gear?

Kemppi control panel and instruction manual are both train wrecks, and if it werent for these then MLS would be a very good machine indeed.

Its not a "dig" at anyone, just a simple statement of fact that anyone who gets given equipment FOC for "review" purposes, isnt likely to be particularly objective, or base their views on anything more than unboxing, setting up, and maybe half an hours welding. Surely info from people who have paid for gear themselves, and used it over a period of months or even years is far more helpful?

That's bull**** as Tom as an example is not "given" machines. He has to return them, it's probably no skin off his employer nose whether he loves, hates them or is indifferent about it.

Thay depends on how much you trust the person.

I've seen a few where the item is obviously crap but the reviewer won't say that because it'll make them look foolish for spending money on it...

Then you get the 'tigmig' style of review, where something that may or may not be fundamentally flawed is dragged down to hades because the reviewer is upset that their individual item broke.

Seems a real shame that this thread has ended so quickly, in pointless arguments over social media "reviews", rather than actual owners and users of various machines posting up their views, following months or years of use.

I'll tell the truth about what I think of any machine.. my bosses ain't bothered what I say about any bit of kit and it ain't like i'm getting anything out of singing praises of machines that ain't any good because if someone buys one & then comes back and says "your review was all lies, give me my money back". It would've wasted my time and theirs.

If you look at the Jasic mig review on my site I don't really sing the praises. I think I actually use the words "its nothing special" & I say that because its exactly what I think of it. It'll do its job & it'll do it to a decent standard but it was in no way shape or form the best mig i've used.
Compare that with the review of the Oerlikon Citomig which I genuinely really enjoyed using for the 2 or 3 hours that I used it, I made it clear that that I loved that bit of kit.

I can see where the thought of "if you're getting it for free then you've gotta give it a good review" but that ain't the case with me. I don't get to keep the machine I review. I use bit of kit we have in stock, say what I think & then we usually sell it on as ex demo or if I like it i'll consider buying it from work if I've got the spare cash.

I do agree that long term reviews are a very good idea but not everyone gets chance to use a wide variety of machines for a long period of time & it'd be quite difficult to accumulate a "database" type of thing.

You started it downhill Chris by making the comment about people getting machines for free. Mean if wasn't a dig why even say that?

Spot on Tom, I would personally see your reviews as a comparison between the welders in terms of features, ease of use etc - if I was considering buying one seriously I'd then be looking at long term owner reviews about reliability, ownership etc.

Both serve their purpose, but I wouldn't accuse anyone of bias - no need for cheap digs at anyone who is doing stuff like this off their own back. As pdg said above, people who have invested their own money are likely to have some bias also.

Yes but we also need consider statistics Some are more upfront about thier possible bias than others on here and most forums to be fair they can make cheap leads
