Hi, I've just purchased this set got it all set up and it only scratch starts.
Does anyone know if it should have hf start and it's not working? thanks

If it's ACDC it almost certainly should have HF start.

Nice little unit, very easy to work out. Unfortunately it's a hf one at a guess as there is no lift start option just ac,dc,mma. Dose it work when you touch the tungsten down or is there no ignition at all.

Yes it works in ac and dc but only when you touch down and lift.

I think I Saw that set on the bay. If it's the same set it was Around £200 IIRC? Seemed to cheap to be in fully working order.

Off the top of my head no, but that gap doesn't look excessive. Do you get any spark at the points at all?

I've not checked yet , but this bit I've arrowed is wobbly on the board.

That's the HF transformer, look for dry solder or loose broken connections, be very careful though the windings are very fine hairlike copper wire and can be damaged easily.

The points gap on my cebora was 8 thou. It was v.e.r.y sensitive to the gap. I just slackened the pinch bolt, slid a feeler gauge in the gap, pressed the contact up to the gauge, gave the feeler gauge a quick rub in and out to make sure there was no grit or whiskers bridging the gap and tightened it up.

Try putting a piece of paper between the points an tighten up, always worked a charm for me

I've sorted it! It was the hf transformer had come loose on the board. I soldered it back on and
Now it's running a dream, very smooth
