Metsec

Hi all,

Not sure if its in the right section as it isnt a project at the mo, just got to price a job so mods feel free to move if so, thanks.

Has anyone used Metsec before? I have been given a project to price up for a job where some dmo work is being carried out and new steel work being erected and Metsec used to fix to the columns etc...

I must admit id never heard of it before until today but once i googles it i realise it is used in all modern super shed and portal building erecting projects.

What i need to know as i cannot find it on the website is which component i need. I have a materials list to price and the Metsec sections have letters and numbers after them which i assume are weight tolerances for example, Metsec MG100w? Does anyone know what this means? As it is new to me and i love challenge i dont want to look silly when i go to site tomorrow if/when presented with a question or if i should need to ask something.

I think MG100 is a lattice beam / truss - there's a separate website for those:

We mostly encounter Metsec as infill structure to R/C or steel frames, with the whole lot then typically over clad - it's basically heavy duty steel studwork. Generally the sub-contractor will approach Metsec, who will do the engineering design and component specification to meet the various loading requirements. The whole lot is then fabricated and delivered to the sub-contractor on site for installation, with much of the cutting already done and often with large panels already assembled. If you have been given a component list then I would guess Metsec may be aware of the job already and may well have priced it when they designed it? It might be worth a couple of calls to find out.

There are other companies who provide similar products and services - Kingspan, EOS and Sureframe being the main ones that I can remember.

THanks for this, ive spent most of the night searching and yes it is a lattice beam. I was told by the client that a few others have also priced for it so Metsec should be ableto get back to me pretty quickly, i just need prices for the 10ton of steel thats going up before it to come through too.
