I have a water trough in galvanised, with small holes. My step brother says he can braze them. Would not explain how. Meanwhile 6 months have gone by. I don't understand BIGONES, here I sit, I have access to a Map torch & an arc welder, what's the best way forward.
I think this is what he's after, but don't know about bigones or big ones. I think he doesn't understand "brazem" is to braze them. Not sure though.

That makes sense, just, said he could repair it, by brazing, six months gone by & spent the money, now I've got to do it.
With a galv trough, resin & glass matt would be the easiest if he has no experience of braze, or epoxy putty, tiger seal, JB weld, or the American equivalent. A resin or PU sealant would be the cheapest & quickest I would think.

Don't think it's worth welding it unless you get it re-dipped. Unless it's being used for something else now?
Tbh, steel troughs are pants anyway. As you've found out they rust out - newer ones very quickly. Also you only need the water to be cut off for a few hours and your cattle are playing a new, fun, improvised game with it 20 metres away.
If memory serves, new concrete troughs start at ~£3 per gallon for smaller ones approaching ~£1 per gallon for big ones. A much better buy IMO.
If you're in a fix/skint, dry it out and whack in a plate of something with a few tek screws and some sealant...
