one of the engineers in work used to live in dubai and worked on a few of the big buildings, he said much the same...either they wanted the very best of fire protection, or nothing at all but still tell everyone that its the best system in the world
Seems if the info is true they must have had good protection as they are saying no casualties..........must have been related to the fireworks IMHO. To go up so quickly..externally they will put it out quickly but if it takes hold inside it will be a long job.
Either way it's not a normal kitchen fire out of control.

Nah, the New Year fireworks.
Why waste a perfectly good bonfire when you want to set some fireworks off?

When we go on holiday, the first thing I do when we get to our hotel room is ask the wife to show me the escape routes in case of fire, makes me come across as an old boring sod and it drives her crazy but I keep telling her I may not be there to help and she has to know what to do.
We had a fire next door to the family business years ago and I saw the remains of the guy and his wife brought out and put in plastic boxes, I never want to see the same again and certainly don't want to copy them.

I will only stay on the lower floors..........ladders dont reach floor 5/6 or above
