Plasma cutter for building 4x4 parts

Hmmmm.... indeed.... I'm not an expert but I don't see the benefit of a circular saw for metal over a chopsaw. Seems a lot more erratic than having a bed that you can pull the saw down onto.
For the £250 you could buy a Chinese plasma cutter and a Rage chop saw.

I've got a cold cut saw already with metal blade in it tct.

It's just for cutting square pieces of plate was thinking

Picked up a bargain tonight 150 litre sip compressor belt pump type just needs a new pressure switch not bad for £100 he described it as workzone make no sip reckoned it was 15 years old think it's more like 5 years to

Ah ok. I know you originally posted re a plasma cutter and I definitely think you'd see value / enjoy using one of these.
My point was... umm... I'm not really sure I see the point in a metal cutting circular saw, especially at £250. Spend that on a plasma

Edit: "Workzone" would be Aldi, but I didn't think they did a 150L compressor?

It's a sip workzone compressor basically it says workzone in massive and he forgot to mention the sip logo when I got there I was like bingo. First I did think on way there I hope it's not from aldi its massive though

You can't cut large plates with a circular saw so I agree with scotl

Not sure I get this, but it's probably not important. A circular saw (or chop saw) isn't going to cut curvy stuff.
A plasma cutter can, though.

So, put us out of our misery... now that you have a compressor are you going to be buying a plasma?

Yeah I was considering both for when the Chinese plasma cutter blows up or I can't be arsed to wait for the compressor to build up.

Closely followed by mustbuildit'itus, a case of now I've got it must use it for somat!

Going back to the original post, I believe that pilot arc would really come into it if you were cutting intermittent material such as mesh or things with holes.

My cut40, smaller version of Skolls 50 will kick the HF back in when not on steel and the trigger isa pressed, it is just not as consistent as the arc is going out when not on steel.

The most I tend to cut is 3mm but have done 10mm by hand and it will do it just slowly says it should do 12 in the booklet but would not like to push that for long.

If you do get a cheep unit try not to buy from ebay but find a local dealer where you can walk in if the unit is faulty. for me that is a company in Blackburn, but luckily mine has not faltered, but as the warranty has just finished, so watch this space, would I buy another.... yes a great tool on a small budget, would I like the more expensive ones... Yes, but can not justify it.

See I will be able to afford a more expensive unit later this year as I'm a landscaper by trade run my own business but quiet at moment.

What's your cut 40 like on 5 6mm? There's a company local to me who sell them for £200 so think I'm gonna go get one from there

I've searched second hand units on eBay but the good stuff is only fetching £200 less than new haha

A circular metal cutting saw could be very handy indeed for both sheet and plate.
Very portable and just needs plugging in. Could be set to cut a bevel and is a lot neater finished edge than plasma requiring no or little clean up
My only reservations are blade life and hitting a big kick back as circular saws are known for the latter

Personally, no. But others may disagree!

Don't be fooled by the German sounding name - it's still a generic Chinese unit, delivered and (perhaps) supported from Germany.
I'd either spend £170 on a random Chinese unit and take the chance, or spend £418 on the R-Tech one and know that I've got support.
