I should rather do that than go down the pit anyday
Both industrys linked in locations of course

My wife's grandad who died back in the late 70s lost most of one foot as a foundry worker through burns but on my side it's black lung etc take your pick

At 16 we were given the choice Steelworks or Pit............I was offered a job as a Junior Surveyor at Pit. I went and it sounded good until they said I had to go down........so I went in Steelworks

Some of the UK's deadliest pit's are a mile away from me, Haig and William pits were the main one's and one event saw over 100 killed, some of the explosions took the lives of kids who at that time worked down the mines.

Rescuers who eventually broke through would find messages written on the slates and walls of those who did not die instantly but were trapped.

In fact there are still bodies down there behind a bricked up seal wall, it was too dangerous to attempt a recovery.
