having a bit bother with work at the minute .they are sponsoring me to do my degree in mechanical engineering.i signed the training agreement on the basis that if i leave i owe them all the money unless i work 2 years after i graduate.since signing the agreement and starting university , they have revised the contract sent it back to me and said i need to work 3 hours a week unpaid to make up the time.other people in the office have to do 3 hours but only have to work 1 year back.anyone had any experience with contract problems with employer. have i really got a leg to stand on or do i just put up with it for the next 6 years..

Why do you think they have a different contract for you than the others? Are you all employed the same?
we are all employed in the same country same job role but signed the contract at different times.these are the follwoing variations
2 hours work back no debt 1 year after graduation
3 hours work back no debt 1 year after graduation
3 hours work back no debt 2 years after graduating
unfortunately ive got the shortest straw

thats my opinion too , as a member of imeche i think i get a free consulation with there chosen tricolors , so ill see what that has to offer .. not expecting much , theres always a clause in contracts that has you bent over

It looks like the company is realising how costly it is and increasing the payback. In fairness it must be a nightmare to lose someone even after two years, should still be a fair deal for all though.
just seems counter productive to me , theyre the ones who pushed me towards it , im doing expected to work 40 hours a week and then overtime and then do something like 10 hours a week study on top. i had to take a half day yesterday to go to uni. ended up spending 7.5 hours in a library... left my house 7;30am got back at half 10pm

You need a good employment law solicitor, I once had a clause written in but Legally it was classed as an unfair contract so whilst it existed it would have been difficult for them to enforce.
Remember by turning up to work it can be classed as accepting it, so make your concerns known in writing.
Some times its better to just move on as you may find something better, in my experience the people who make the contract never show it or consult with any legally qualified people

I bet I could find a few thousand people who would swap places with you, it won't be cheap to sponsor you in a degree in mechanical engineering, it's usually the opposite and getting a company to pay for external training/personal qualifications is more often than not a fight.
There is of course still an argument that the contracts conditions should reflect each other or a valid reason why they don't.

if i had your chance i would be doing pretty much what ever the company wanted in order to get a degree, even if i was locked in for 2 years after graudating, i would still only be there for 6 years from now if i decided to leave afterwards. i would be 30 at that point and would still realistically have up to 40 years of working life left in me if i made it to 70 so being 'stuck' with a company that has helped me so much for an extra 2 years and having to do a few hours a week unpaid wouldnt bother me at all
I am not a lawyer so take this for what it is, I would think that once a contract like this is signed and implemented it is not possible to change it without the consent of both parties concerned and one party cannot force the other to change the terms. That is the whole point of having a legal contract, however I would consult a solicitor to get a legal opinion. Just my 2 cents worth.

Sadly companies have you over a barrel and your ******** in a vice. Their answer will be simplistically put, if you dont like it, have sex and travel.
On the other hand they are obviously confident that they will have a job for you for 6 years, it could be worse.
Discussion is the sensible option, stay calm, there paying for a degree and a degree with work experience is worth alot, itll take you a long way in life.
My biggest regret, work wise is not doing one when i had the chance, now though i can do the job, run rings round many who do the job, im allowed to stand in blah blah, but they wont give me the job. "They" being the very large corporation im employed by, who seem to make the rules up a they go along.
