Saw this on eBay -

I always thought you should avoid small dia tubes as they quickly got blocked ?

whats missing from that is a clean out access port so they can be cleaned when needed without having to take it all apart to do it

This is my version of heat exchange.
small square hole in right side is for fan (air in), two round holes is air out.
big square hole in front is for cleaning and shows pipes.

pipes are placed something like these:

o o o o
o o o
o o o o
o o o

it works fine for two years.

If i use only wood it don't need to be clean more than once in winter.
if some ugly stuff are burned it need to be cleaned once per two weeks.
everything depends on fuel.

a nice build there also with some good info

id like to ask how does it feel when in use do you get cold spots or a fluctuation of heat in certain areas or when the fan is kicking on

If anyone want to built something similar to this i can give few advices (remember this is prototype, but working very well)

in shortcut it will be:
-bigger pipes, and space between them.
-not exacly squaret box (cone in top and bottom)
-diffrent type of fan
-diffrent thermostat (installed is 40 celsius but i think 60 would be better)
-bigger "air in" box (air out box diameter is good)


and i repeat: with wood works well but with other fuels you need to clean frequently

This is probably French. I've seen a lot of them over there and I always thought they must get blocked too, but I guess where it's situated the flue gases will still be very hot, and since there are four tubes, the flow through each one is reduced to an extent that it doesn't block up. I still reckon anything but smokeless would clog it though!
