help improve my welds they are bad atm, pics inside

Well i have got out the welder and i did a couple of practice welds, but they werent coming out to great, im using a migmate 130 turbo. Number 1 shows shows a high power setting and fast wire speed, 2 shows a high power setting with medium wire speed, 3 shows medium wire speed and medium wire speed.

How should i adjust the setting to get a good weld, so i can then just practice, practic, and practice, untill i get the hang of it?

You've not got enough shielding gas on the welds - that makes them spattery with a poor arc and lots of holes.

Are you running a disposable bottle by any chance? The regs on those are notorious for not supplying sufficient gas until they are turned up as far as they go.

I agree with Malcolm... if you are using a shielding gas, check to see if you opened the valve on the tank... if you did, it may be empty... if it isn't empty, check to see what your gas pressure is set at on your regulator... (remember to check the guage furthest from the tank... its the low pressure side) When your welder is on and you pull the trigger it should be set to around 20-25 cfh... if that isn't the problem, check to see that your cone isn't plugged by spatter.

That looks like gasless slag to me.

You need to describe the wire type you are using and gas if any.

LOL your right, i realised that after going back out to try some more welds that the there was no gas left, so i went out and brought some more bottles, ill give the welding another go in a bit and post up some pics, so you lot can give me some advice haha

Well i didnt get the chance to go out an have another go tonight, but ill defonately have a go tomorrow, is there a certain way to make the weld sit lower and give more penitration? so there is less for me to clean up after?

With the proper gas, it will be lower. The gas add heat and allows the weld time to spread out (the CO2/O2 does this.)

Ah dam, i brought 2 bottles of argon 80% / CO2 20%. Will these be rubbish for the job or will they be ok?

Well i had a quick weld with the gas today and this is how it came out, is there anything i should be changing?

Also when you have have a blow through, how are you supposed to fill this? do you just arch the mig at one side and then drag it over?

you probs had the wire speed on to fast thats why your blowing holes mate turn it down a bit you should be fine

Yes i will turn down my wire speed, but i still need to know how to fill a blow though hole, also this would be needed if i am fitting a patch, but its not quite cut perfect, so there might be a small gap that needs bridging, so how would i go about doing this?

bridge gaps/holes using short bursts.

Wait till it cools down before you go back and try and bridge a gap. Just weld around the hole until it is filled. Watch the heat!
