MMA Gouging

I have potentially got rather a lot of weld to remove and I have no access to oxy acetylene or carbon arc gouging. It looks like i'm going to have to do it the tedious way using a 9 inch grinder. I'm wondering if I could avoid this by using MMA gouging. What welder are you intending to run them with?

They're OK if you've got the power, though messy. It has been a long time since I used any mind.

I have got 160 amps available which according to the information on the web page ought to be enough for the 2.5s or the lower end of the 3.2s.

Unfortunately not. I wish I did. Out of interest though don't you need special consumables for plasma gouging? I thought that they weren't really available for most plasma cutters. Or can you just use the normal consumables too?

Don't bother with the 3.2 rods with that amperage.
Is the power supply DC or high voltage AC - they probably won't work off a basic buzz box, thought I should mention it just in case that's what you have.

A lot of dc sets state not to use gouging rods, both mine won't run them.
