Morning all...
Been on a quest this last couple of days to find a peice of 24x24 25mm steel plate.....phoned a few places but not having a lot of joy...most of my calls resulted in being asked what do I want it for........ it's for my work bench to weld a fab on.....that's way to big.you don't need 25mm...I appreciate the ifs and buts.....that's what I want.....so have found a place on eBay. ...500mmx500mmx25mm lazer cut..new steel....happy days...except the price.£150...coughing coughing and coughing. ...

I guess so I suppose. Ain't sure on weight. .a lot I would of imagine. ...you how it is when we get these wants in our heads

that near enough 50Kg. Are you sure a piece of 10mm plate on a frame would not be better?

To be honest I agree with you......I am going to be making a couple of small metal benches for other things....I originally wanted a surface plate..lots of doe.......

Yes.24 inches x 24 inches x 25mm.....any chance you could dig it out for me..will pm you....

will plate be good enough for a surface plate. I thought they usually were cast and has ribs on the back.

600x600x25 would be perfect mate...it will fine for my bench...I have looked a surface plates but big money and are out of my reach at the moment. .

Nearer to 73kg actually, as you say piece of 10mm on a box section frame is more than adequate, set the frame 50mm or so in from the edges so that you can get some clamps on it.
even that will weigh 30kg plus the frame

Chaps....I hear you I honestly do so while I was smiling away to my self with the thought of a 25mm slab and the weight of it...it's not a problem chaps because it gave me the push to do the upgrades I been meaning to do...she can take it

Try a place called Belper tools in Manchester. I don't have the number but google them. Not sure what the price for postage would be but I got a piece of 20mm thick plate 300x300mm for £30. I picked it up

I no...used to be a groundworker and there was stacks of it lying about..but I got me eye on a few bits

I assume as it's just for welding fab you don't need it ground, in other words your not after a engineers bench.

Like Paul says it's 72-73kg 610x610x25. It will be a good heat sink

Been sort of busy today doing work bench upgrades amongst the tea breaks every half hour.....I no its not quite welding related but welding is and will be done on it for now....didn't realise I had so much to do....anyway got it all prepared and glued and skrewed and the 28mm dowels in...got the back to do and floor..and a few other little idears I had along the way......once finished that 72/73 kg lump of metal will sit nicely on there
