My new little workshop

Well finally got my new little workshop up. Still needs electrics finishing, epoxy floor finish, finish the wood staining, get bench and storage unit made for inside.

I got a builder to do it, ended up doing a lot of bits and pieces and fixing poor workmanship myself, but hey what do you expect from builders

17 degree pitch on the roof BTW - Sandtoft 20/20 clay tiles and third round clay ridge tiles.

Nice build, but you will soon outgrow it, it's amazing how much space machinery takes up, plus the benches.

Didn't know tiled pitch rooves could go as flat as 17 degrees, but looking on Sandtofts spec could go even lower with bigger lap. When I did buildings and structures 22.5 degrees was usual for tiled roofs and lower pitches where usually metal clad.
The real shed looks far better than the rendering by the way.

Well it'll do as a porch, but when you buy a mill, lathe, power hacksaw, pillar drill, etc etc, you'll be ringing that builder back to do an extension.

For the extra from block to bricks I thought what the heck. The bricks came in at about £800 but I still have about 200 spare so they will come in handy later for the house extension.

I know but how much can you get past the wife, I already have the garage full . I think this was the limit she would live with. Internally I have 6 foot x 8+ foot . I'm going to have a strict rule if I can't open the door and work on the bench without bumping into stuff it needs clearing out

I had originally looked at a new wooden workshop. Without lining the hell out of it I would still get all those damp issues. So it was a matter of then slowly talking the wife round to how nice it would look and it would add value to the house

All in about 6.2K cough, ok it's not cheap but I have probably left something that will out live me.
Planning permission who needs that . Seriously I didn't know if it was possible initially to build something of a reasonable size with enough head room without planning permission. Basically it sits smack on the maximum 2.5m high limit with no planning needed.

I had to play around with CAD on soildworks for hours to get it to work and find tiles that would work.

I have a nice small window for the sniper position, radio communication to command centre and maps on the wall.

I will get some, the roof has been plastered with 50mm of celotex. Breathable roof felt was used in combination with enough ventilation to hopefully keep mould/rot at bay.
Head space is actually better than I imagined it would be.

It sure was a pain in the butt to sort out which tiles. The two criteria where very low pitch and thin so they didn't take up much height so not to eat into the 2.5m max height much.

All I was getting from builders, why you not using plastic fascia, plastic windows, plastic door, dry verge etc. The builder I used couldn't remember the last time he fitted a wooden window or wooden door Builder couldn't understand why I was using clay ridges = because they will look the same as the clay tiles in 15 years dummy.

I wish I could but other than moving the wife wouldn't have it in the size of garden we have.
