Aldi Paint

Hi , I am in the process of painting a motor bike frame with Aldi Deco metal paint (black),I have brushed painted a first coat but I am going to give it a final spray coat, has anybody used this paint and what ratio thinners to paint are req'd to give a reasonable finish. Thanks in advance, any info would be greatly appreciated.

i use 10-20% - thin it a bit and test until its spraying to your taste

My friend painted his Guzzi frame with Aldi paint and a small touch up gun. He didn't do any measuring just thinned it with cheap cellulose thinner till it went on smooth

even though you intened to spray the final coat, it will still look like you have brush painted it so other then ease of application there is no advantage to spraying the final coat

Has anyone used Owatrrol paint conditioner when brush painting and how do you rate it?

i have used it in other paints , does seem to help but makes the coverage worse

Snooper.why would a final spray top coat still look like it had been brushed. My intention was to just make it look a bit smoother and more even finish, if spraying isn't going to make little or no difference then I just as well brush it again. Thanks to you all for you replies .

underlaying surface will show through , same as spraying over bad prep

if its gone off hard you could ticklle it up with some wet n dry to try and get it reasonbly smooth before spraying it

Because the pattern will be there from the bristles of the brush and will show through I had a friend that did this he applied his primer using a brush then was shocked to find his car looked hand painted even though he sprayed the top coat of

Agree with snooper, any brush marks and any smooth areas will get the same thickness of spray paint, so in effect every area will be raised by the same amount and look exactly the same in finish as it did before spraying, the gloss may differ a little but not to any big noticeable difference.

Thanks chaps that's sorted that out then, I am not looking for a 1st class job just something of a cover up really, its not a big job to hand paint it again, frames hung up ready, I think that I will just give it a couple of thin coats and leave it at that.

A lot of profesional boat painters use Owatrol, with white spirit based brush on paints. I have used it and it makes all the brush marks flow out, and slows down the drying time, it certainly worked for me. I would use it every time.
