Landy front chassis repair

Hi all,

Been quite for a while... exams, project work, papers to write etc. Finished now though, and need to do some major repair on my lady chassis.

was doing some HARD CORE off roading at speed and hit a jump a little too fast.... trouble is i cant drive anywhere to buy weld gas to repair it

There's a repair piece to fix that. It includes the spring hanger and goes all the way back to the front crossmember.

yeah i was going to get one from paddock spares (i hate them but theyre cheap)

do you know if it comes with flanges or just butts up against the front cross member? theres no pic on the site. if it just butts up, then do i weld a butt joint then weld some strips of steel across the joint to strenghten it?

Crayefish, seem to recall you're pretty near to me? If you get stuck I could chuck my full-size cylinder in the back of my truck and bring it over to you if that's any help?
Get the repair piece, prepare it all and it won't take you long to buzz it on .

I wouldn't want any money off you for the measly little bit of gas you'd use .
The offroading sounds good though! We could take my L200.....on second thoughts.....maybe not .
The only offroading it's ever done is parking in a field at a festival .

The one I got slid over the end of the chassis and had a return which butted up to the X-member so you could actually weld it onto the member as well as the chassis.

The problem I did have was that although the spring hanger and chassis lined up perfectly, the bumper was out of line and I had to shim it to make it level!

thanks mate. bumper shouldnt be a problem for me as i havent had one in years. my wheels used to scrape against it (theyre quite large) so i took it off

Front dumb irons are fairly simple to make from scratch if you have a bit of 2mm sheet steel lying about,save time by reusing the old spring hangers.

I've still got our old daihatsu fourtrack sat on the drive, keep looking at it and thinking off-roading . Hmmmmmm .

did the same a while back, just cut the old ones off after getting all the measurements off it, it's really quite simple

new chassis would be better

nice restoration mark... dont you just love the fact that every series landrover on the road is made out of at least 15 other landrovers

personally id call mine more of an ongoing modification than a restoration... you dont find many series 3s with 14" travel remote resevoir Fox shocks

haha no. the fact that my number plate is missing two digits at the rear (they fell off) or that my wheels stick out the sides by and inch and a half each side is probably more of a problem, but never caused me to be stopped

i covered the wires with heat shrink tubing so there are no sharp steel threads, n theyre there to support the wing since so much of them has been cut away to fit the wheels. with out them they flap around like its trying to take off. also like the camel trophy ones, they do help deflect branches over the windscreen
