Car speaker grilles

I am going to install some 5 1/4" Fusion speakers in the rear quarters of my GTC. There is a really perfect recess to accept them in the inner wings. The issue I have is that the supplied grilles will not do as the soft top mechanism will foul them. The original factory intention was to fit some small, rectangular metal griiles, but they are completely wrong in shape and size for these speakers. The grilles are in effect a steel mesh panel with a low profile surround. The surround has four pegs that go through the plastic panel and secured with push on clips.

Does anyone know of some inexpensive circular grilles made like that please?

Are you planning on carrying rear passengers? If not don't bother fitting them as it will spoil the sound stage.

If you must fit them, I may be able to cut you some black (or white) nylon rings on my mill. Which then can be fitted over some mesh and screwed on to fit (put rivnuts on panel).

Rarely if ever will there be rear seat passengers.

Yes, they are all too thick. I need something almost flush.

drill a piece of 3mm mdf with multiple holes then cover with speaker cloth?

Honestly, its not worth it

I've competed in and won sound quality competitions, with only fronts and a sub.

They will drag the sound stage backwards and ruin it, spend the money on better fronts for a better sound

he's right, put all the money into front speakers that you can enjoy everyday , you dont stand with your back to a concert do you

I am deaf in one ear, the front speakers are not up to much due to their position and size, the factory setup was even worse. So the idea is to produca a wall of sound with a decent frequency response that I can hear. I have never been able to experience a sound stage, the best I can do is a sort of radar by turning my head! For the same reason, stereo headphones are a problem unless the source is switched to mono. The major benefit though is that when 'indoors starts her steam engine impressions at night, I can just roll onto my good ear. ;-)
