BSF Nuts and Bolts

Does anybody know of a supplier (or has a stash they want to sell!) of 7/17" BSF nuts, bots and washers?

I am building a 7 1/4" gauge narrow gauge locomotive, which is part built, an old design and uses a number of 7/16 BSF nuts and bolts. I've been on evilbay and Googled classic car supplier, tried Namrick but the prices seem silly! (Over £46 plus VAT plus delivery for 20 off 7/16" BSF x 1 1/2" long set screws)

What I'm after is -

20 x 7/16" BSF x 1.5" hex head set screws
20 x 7/16" BSF x 3/4" hex head set screws
40 x 7/16" BSF washers
40 x 7/16" BSF full nuts

Any suggestions

I think I have a box of 2" 7/16 BSF caphead bolts in the workshop if they are any use.
http://www.wentinfasteners.co.uk will have them on the shelf, if you can get to Yeovil its like a nut and bolt self service store, you can buy 1 bolt or 1000.

Hello Peter,

I think that it is inevitable that Whitworth fasteners will be expensive due to the very low demand. I presume you've tried model engineering forums also. I think it depends on how pressing your needs are if you can find them at a price you want to pay. One supplier I have used is Bernie the Bolt, B.F. Wade 01226 370860.
He has no web site as far as I know but used to have a very extensive stock of unusual and scarce fasteners. (He told me that he bought up all the stock of Concord fasteners when production stopped.)

Why sets ? might be harder to find than bolts.

Some of the fixings are joining parts together and I was playing safe to ensure I could join even the thinnest of parts!

It was just that the old way was to save energy and you very rarely saw sets in W or bsf mostly bolts, come to think of it in unf also, sets where unusual.

Some holes are already threaded, I was just upping the quantities to see if I got a better discount (on evilbay they are charging a quid each when you buy 4!)

Look for auto jumbles and the like in your area there is usually plenty of unusual bolts at these sorts of places.

Wentin also do mail order - a lot cheaper as you only buy what you need rather than browse their extensive stock!

7/16 is 11mm a little awkward, but there will be a reason they have used Whit, IMO

just buy some 7/16 unc, as Whit and unc are very close, and run that down .

i always get the nuts and bolts i need from ajfasteners they are in benfleet so not too far from me.

i remember when i took three lathe chucks down there ( bought a job lot)

and they sorted out bolts that fitted them for me...

nothing i had in the garage would fit..
as i only have metric really...
sure it was BSF the chucks where.

Unfortunately unfortunately is to close and too different to retap. 18 tpi vs 20 tpi
So you have a few options
1 make 7/16 bsf bolts
2 retap to 1/2 unfortunately
3 retap to m12

I think 3 would be the easiest and cheapest

AH I understand now
