Windows 10 anyone?

Anyone have any idea if it will be worth accepting the free upgrade from my 7 to the 10.

I am a dinosaur, always at the trailing edge of technology, not into changing for changings sake, took me ages to go from XP to 7.

I like 7 and find it ok to use for what I use the PC for, so wondering if there is anything specific about 10 that would make me think... got to have that!

I don't see the big deal about it, and my laptop seems significantly slower since the upgrade.

it would be a good idea for people that have upgraded to post the specs and make of their machine and whether its runs faster or slower it may help people decide if its worth upgrading for them

As long as it was genuine and has been able to get Windows updates I don't see why it won't upgrade

Apparently it does upgrade to 10 but then starts nagging you to buy a licence , there's a few articles about the 75% of Windows that are non-genuine in China and how they would be affected by the upgrade.

I did our first win10 install this week the lap top is much quicker than when running 7 pro, it opens photoshop in about half the time it used to take same improvements opening some large database heavy Crestron software. All is good so far.

That seems to be the way with updates, they stop a perfectly good machine working forcing an upgrade - apple are swines for this, so I refuse to buy any of there stuff anymore.

My upgrade was a bit slow at opening apps for the first time but has now settled down and is a lot quicker than 7, particularly when changing user. 7 used to take ages, 10 does it immediately. Don't like the "lifestyle" pop-ups though so got rid of most of them (Twitface etc).

I had some issues upgrading a genuine legit copy, it was quite old and had been sysprepped and restored a few times

So I did a fresh 7 install, used an old skool loader (basically a crack, but my genuine copy isn't installed so I'm not technically stealing it?)
Upgraded to SP1 and then the 10 preview, which then upgraded to the 10 release and I'm now running 10 Pro, which tells me it's genuine

It's pretty much instant boot, loads photoshop in seconds and Lightroom instantly, I have a catalogue of pre 2015 photos that is over 100k, that takes a bit longer to load

I've also turned all the Cortana, location and any other push notification crap off

I don't know model numbers of the top of my head but the spec is:
AMD 8 core, 3.5ghz clocked to a nadge over 4
16gb of Hyper-X (savage I think) ram
Nvidia 740 graphics card, 2gb of gddr5
250gb sata ssd (did have 2 in a raid0 but one failed)
2tb raid1
Some OTT psu as I had bad experience with a cheap one
All in one pre-filled water cooler

Hmmm .. got a headache now

Considering any programs I use open in what seems no time at all, then faster would be of no benefit, or none that I could see anyways.

I don't twitter, facebook, Skype or anything similar.

Think I will leave well alone...SO

Anyone know how to stop this annoying blue pop up telling me I can upgrade? or will it just die when the offer ends?

It all depends on you hardware if its an old pc that was xp or 7 and has not been upgraded in 5 years then no it would be a bad idea. If its a reletivelt ne one and can with 8 or its late 7 then you may as well

My computer was upgraded from windows 8.2 to 10 about a week ago. So far the impression is that 10 is faster once you've opened an app but booting up takes slightly longer. My overall view is positive so far.

I have clicked on the little window symbol at the bottom of the screen to upgrade and it hasn't happened yet, i think there are a load of nerds sitting in microsoft laughing at my computer specs.

Here's the thing, folks. If you have a legit copy of Windows 7 or 8 then you should take the Windows 10 upgrade during the first year, while you don't have to pay for it.
Security patches for Windows 7 and 8 will come to an end which means that even if you only use your PC for surfing the web and writing the odd letter, you will end up being vulnerable to all of the malevolence that is out the on t'interweb.
Going to Windows 10, if nothing else, will keep your PC safe for a few years more than if you stick on Windows 7 or 8.

The specs for Windows 10 are exactly the same as for the two earlier versions and so it should run at effectively the same performance (if not faster) than your existing operating system.

The vast majority of applications continue to work, and you can bet that future apps or upgrades will be far more likely to work on Windows 10 than on an earlier version.

Sure, the interface / user experience is a little different but you'll adapt in a couple of days. Remember how different Windows 7 was from XP, or from Windows 98? And, honestly, if you're running Windows 8.x then you possibly don't even realise how crap an experience that is, until you try Win10.

In a nutshell, if you have a genuine copy of Windows why would you not upgrade? It's free, (probably) faster, easier to use, and will be supported for a lot longer than what you're running today.

Oh - and if you don't like it or have a problem, you can click a button to revert to your previous version of Windows with all settings and apps intact.
