Hi all..just been watching some crazy u tube videos on steel rim banding...and it's so got me thinking ..anyone hear done them..something I would like to have a go at...wish I hadn't of seen the videos that's put crazy ideas in my head...

just do what we used to do to our capri,s and cortinas in the late 70,s....turn the steel wheels inside out and hammer a new recess for the wheel nuts. still the same skinny width but they looked better sticking out the arches

Each to there own I agree..but couldn't help but think I could make a jig to hold it and have a go..I guess the hardest part is not to distort it while welding in the new section..

dont be a wuss...the russians hold it between there legs while they weld the bands..but there again ime supprised those ruskys survive long enough to film anything the stuff they get upto

I no..just seen another video of some guys with an angle grinder and a little stick welder and not a lot of anything else..haha..makes me laff...

I believe banded wheels are a bit of a grey area with regards to legality. What might be legal with agricultural vehicles may not be legal on standard road going vehicles. A company called Fieldens based on Norwich worked on my truck wheels on my blue pickup. I gave them 4 wheels 15 x 12 and a week or so later I picked up the banded wheels at 15 x 16 wide

Did it in the early 60s turned the well left it in the lathe (looking back Animals poor lathe) still it was very old then with plain bearings in the head & chipped ways) welded in a pre rolled bit usually 1\2 inch strap then welded flange well back on. Simples
Had a ground strap that rotated in the head stock & welded with machine turning on slow speed, never had one come apart.

She wont ride in it Gordon. The only time she rode in it was for our wedding but that was when it had the baby v8 in there which was a tired old, weezy TVR 3.5 litre. When she heard the new engine fire up she said there is no way im riding in that thing now LOL

P.S. Thoses are the sort of tyres i would like on my Touareg, hate those stupid low profile ones that are fitted, That and the massive wheel arches make them look as if the were designd by a five year old kid.

If I had known that you could of had the first set of wheels and tyres i was running.......... only 4k for the tyres and 1k for the rims, tyres are 49" high 21.5" wide wheels were custom 20" x 16"

LOL they are just transport wheels, if they kept the 66" tyres fitted to the truck they would be having hassle everytime they were on the road with it loaded on the haul trailer . I was never pulled over for my tyres sticking out past the mud guards, Mr Plod was always looking but never asked the question
We drove it to Santa Pod from Tunbridge Wells, raced it up the drag strip and drove it home as well and never got a pull from Mr Plod. Mind you he did sit in the middle lane on the M25 for a bout 2 miles matching our speed, pulled along side and waved and then drove off. Crazy days

You go round once, life is not a dress rehearsal, fill each day with everything you can and dont live with regrets and " oh I wish I had done that" go out and do it

now that being said what time do you want to pop round to buy it LOL Very frugal on juice now
