Boiling water, and plenty of it..... Flood the nest or wherever they appear. Eventually the water will find where they hide.

just come home an hour ago to 15 zillion flying ants all around my gaff...whats going on

There was a mass swarm of the things in Wrexham on Friday - maybe they are colonising the north west!!!

A 50/50 mix of icing sugar and baking powder really works well so long as it's kept dry, once they smell the sugar they can't resist but baking powder reacts with the formic acid the ants produce in an explosive way. This only controls them, but it's friendlier to the environment than chemicals, i've never heard of anyone successfully eradicating them with anything there always seem to be enough survive to eventually rebuild the colony. This was after a couple of hours

they dont like half a gallon of parafin or woodworm fluid dropped on there nest and soak in its good for spraying wasps nests as well

I decided to empty the compost bin i have in the back garden today, the ones you put your kitchen/garden waste in, i needed the compost for a new flower bed in the front garden. Anyway i popped open the little door in the front and there was billions of bleedin' ants in the thing. Went into the kitchen and boiled up a kettle of water, that helped.
