Solar light frames

Hi all,

A few months back I posted a thread of two solar light frames that swivel on bearings that were bolted to a bridge over the Manchester Ship Canal.

I was then commissioned to fabricate some bigger ones that would replace the light boxes of a few lights in the Latchford area of the canal. Basically, the vegetation grows at such a rate that the pilots of the ships sailing down the canal cannot see the lights which direct them at night so the box they are fixed to now are to be removed and frames fitting with the lights at the end. I'm on the boat now so cannot really spend too much time going through the build so I'll just post the pics of the two I fitted yesturday

So they are locked in the out position but can be unlocked and swung back in for servicing?

Yes they are locked out but can then swivel round for maintenece on the light when needed

It's actually 100x100 box and yes massively over species but it's what they asked for. The channel section is 150x75x15 and they wanted me to use bigger stuff!!!

I priced up the steel they chose and put a price in for 50x50 box but they didn't even read my estimate. The light weighs approx 6kg but for me, if the customer wants to pay the price I'm happy to do as they say

Looks good, quality work even though as you all say massive steel for such a small light! I am surprised it does not have some form of H&S rule that prevents crazy people using them as gallows!

Yeah, when someone does that its usually because they don't know a darn thing about their job suppose they didn't want that cheaper quote letting the cat out the bag. Hey, I shouldn't have grumbled either (customer is always right and all that rowlocks)
6kg well perhaps they got the decimal in the wrong place and computer did the calc on it for 600

because some prick will be swinging on them and they would snap and fall in then it would be a swift phonecall to claims direct

Can't really see these collapsing, the only way they would topple is if someone had a spanner to undo the ground anchors and even then they'd have to be giant haystacks to carry the frame before it sends him into the drink. It took two of us to get both the post and the frame into position as the banking was slippy as hell
