I really wanted to get hold of a semi-ellipsoidal pressing or spinning but couldn't justify the mega bucks price so thought I would go for an octagonal shape instead. I plasma cut the pieces out from 3mm steel using 12mm MDF male templates. First lesson - Use female templates because then you get nice sharp corners.
Pieces tacked up then welded. I drilled an 8mm drain hole in the centre which has a 3" disc welded about 2" below it to catch any hot ash or embers - don't want my decking to go up in flames.
Next phase? An octagonal lid, a bit like a big top shape, with cut outs (would have liked a hemisphere but would have had to remortgage the house).
