Etch priming an engine bay.

Hi folks

Been smoothing my engine bay in my mini project and im nearing the end of all the welding, ive removed all the seam sealer and paint and am going to be looking to put a light skim filler to tidy up some of the welds ive ground down and blended in with a da and 80 grit paper.

I had intended to buy a compressor to do a bit of painting but im nowhere near in the position where I could afford all the gear. Would there be any reason why i couldnt use a good quality aerosol primer? im just looking to get a coat of primer over it so I can start the dry build but have no intention of bare metalling it again when done.

If I was you I would buy a few cans of 2k epoxy for the job. Frosts sell it.

yeah epoxy would be the better choice , but yeah etch in cans would work if you cant manage a gun yet

You could even brush the epoxy on and then sand flat. Big job doing it that way but is doable.

2k Epoxy would make a far better job and can be rollered or brushed and sanded, I get the impression your thinking of leaving in primer for a while ??? If so primer is porous but epoxy is not.

Thanks guys, it could be 6months maybe longer waiting for paint. im smoothing the engine bay and doing a wire tuck so I want everything dry built first. Local motorfators might stock it.

Local motor factors is definitely not the place to buy paint !!!

Lechlar is as good as you can get, goes on super smooth too.
