'99 Octavia Immobiliser

Bad news.
I have searched for a solution but all the answers I can find refer to remote locking, and not the simple 'key in lock' type.

I went out half an hour ago to do the shopping to find that the 'car-key' icon stays flashing, only allowing three seconds of running. It was used last night around 11pm with no problems, and prior to that, just the usual hot start sluggishness.

There is mention of a keyfob to scratch and a code appears, but I do not have the fob and there is no note in the paperwork to tell me what the code was.

I am fearing the worst, apart from being a bit peeved.

Sounds silly but are you using your normal key?
I went out to a customer once who said his car wouldn't run, he gave me the keys, I started the car and it ran fine.Tried several times and all ok.Just as I was leaving I had an idea and asked if those were the keys he was using when it wouldn't start, turned out he was using a spare key he just had cut but had no immobiliser chip.

I'm not familiar with skoda but as it part of vw I would have thought similar system is used. The key has a chip in it, if the chip gets damaged or lost the engine only runs for a few seconds then stops as the immobiliser kicks in. The chip reader coil may also be at fault giving the same symptoms. Car needs to be checked for faults from diagnostic socket to find which is likely to be the culprit

I checked both keys, same result, which would indicate the reader coil.

I do vaguely know a mobile electrician, so will have to give him a ring.

Thanks to zx-9, I have a 'fully' functioning vehicle again.

Turn on, brake pedal pushed for a count of ten, turn off. Turn on, light goes out, car starts.

Naturally last night Ineeded a dab on the breake to get it started.

Ironically, this was after spending four hours with my nephew who has bought a Yamaha Enticer with some interesting electrical modifications.
