Hino 700 truck mirrors - specifically, their electrics?

I think (although im not yet certain*) that ive just bought a set of mirrors from a Hino 700 series truck.

These ones -

*the reason im not sure yet, is that a friend was bidding on my behalf - the hammer price was under my max, but he may have been in the toilet (etc) at the time, so nothing is for sure till its in your hand...


Anyhow, they are to fit onto my LHD landrover, which, im sure some will have seen my post on.

This one -

Anyhow - there's clearly electrics on the mirrors. It could be as theyre heated. It could be for electronic adjustment. They may be 12v, or might be 24.


Anyone know?


If theyre 24v adjustment, im wondering if some little switch mode DC to DC unit might work with them on my 12v vehical.

note - the mirrors were cheap enough that i did not check all this before the auction close (for my bid, im ok either way)

Wire them up to 12v if they are heated it will just work slower.

Had not thought of that - doh.

Some of the truck brochures state that the mirrors are electronically adjustable. Im hoping that this may be the case with these ones.

I cant work it out, but it certainly looks like there are a few wires on their loom.

24v mirrors are not immensely fast to heat up, it does depend on the quality of heater element the supplier fits in there. Genuine oem parts are generally better quality and the cheaper ones are usually made of inferior quality. If your mirrors won't work on 12v because they don't get enough power there is an alternative. Generally the heater element is glued on, you can use a heat gun and peel the element off, replace it with a 12v stick on element. Are these mirrors motorised or just heated ?

...which will be more bother to convert, I'm sure.

At present I can't even work out if they are 24v or not though.

I have, however, received confirmation of a win.

They will be 24 volt, a hino hgv is 24v. The motorised head is not a problem, you dont have to connect the wires to move the mirror glass you can move it with a small amount of pressure by hand. The heated mirror is only two wires which is positive and negative. The wires do not matter which way round you connect them because the element is not connected to the earth of the truck body.

If you do a search on fleabay for mirror element in the section for Commercial vehicle parts you will see 12 and 24v heater elements that stick on the back of the mirror.

I would have thought the motors used to move the mirrors would be tiny and therefore not need a very large 12v-24v converter of which you can get cheaply off eBay.

Obviously you'd need something a lot more powerful if wanting to operated the 24v heaters as well !

I would have thought 12v would drive a 24v servo only slower
