Thermal Dynamics power consumption

Been offered a Thermal Dynamics Dynapak 4Xi for free. It's only a 15 - 40 amp machine but the handbook says the current consumption is 33amps and the power supply should be fused at 40 amps. If true it's not going to work on my 16amp supply and I can't easily upgrade it. I know it's an old machine but I wonder what technology it uses to make it so power-hungry.

You should be able to use it on lower settings Perry.

Presumably it's transformer rather than inverter based technology? Is it heavy in weight?

It weighs 47lb. There is a transformer in it but not a very large one. The user manual says it has a switching power supply.

I know that - what I was wondering was why it requires so much current when modern Cut 40s I have used run quite happily on a 16amp supply.
