Cast iron bath

I have to remove a cast iron bath and get it down a lot of stairs,anyone ever cut one up with a 4 1/2 grinder and if so what type of disc?

i believe the old fashioned way was to hit it with a sledge hammer

Sit in bath, ride it downstairs making sure mate videotapes it then sell tape to TV program for £200 - job done, with profit!

Do you think I should leave the door at the bottom of the stairs closed so that it leaves a cartoon type outline when I crash through it. LOL

If you can turn it top down before you start hitting it as then all the emamel stays under the bath and does not fly around.

Are you sure it's cast ron and not steel? If the latter you could end up with a sledge-hammer shaped hole in the ceiling.

goggles,ear defenders,gloves and a very big lump or sledge hammer , ear defenders well bath rooms are small and that ringing is not the front door and enameling cut eyes good so goggles with side protectors. Have Fun

Hi,

yes, I'd heard that people pay loads of dosh for them...

I smashed one up some years ago. The plumber carried it downstairs on his own like a tortoise shell then he dumped it on the front lawn. I turned it puside down and smacked it as hard as I could with a 12 pound hammer...

it rang like a big bell and three neighbours came out to see what was happening.

Well folks , turned out to be steel, decided against riding it down the stairs Indiana Jones style and cut it in half using the grinder,very messy and still heavy but job done

I just broke one at my kids house the other day with a sledge. Lots of glass shards and flying chunks of steel. Wear ear muffs and safety glasses. Try to break it on some cardboard or towels if you don't want the floor ruined. And watch the throne dosen't get hit by a flying piece...Bob

Have done two of them, First I dint use ear deffenders & could not hear for a long time. Concentrate on hitting the roled edge to weaken it then it goes easier.
