worth 80quid?

Hi,

My GF has just came in with a load of stuff, she said she wanted to get me some old tools since she knows that I love old tools and i keep banging on about looking for them if anyone chucks stuff away.

apparently she put a wanted ad up, and went and picked these up for me, however I'm very frugal and i like every pound i spend to be worth something ( i swear i'm not tight!!) lol...so i don't know if they are worth 80 quid???
I love her for doing it, but on the other hand if it's wasted money i feel a bit sick. I've not got anywhere near the amount of chisels etcs that's here

I think £80 may have been a bit high, some interesting stuff though. I remember my Dad getting one of those Eclipse hacksaws in the 1950s.

I think its kinda on the high side, I think £50 would have been a bit nearer the mark,

Never the less its a fair amount of tools think as less than a tenner for each photo.

I figured they were over priced. It's my own fault for talking about tools that's sold on ebay for x amount

Yeah i recieved them as a gift, She is happy and i am to some extent. The problem is me, I hate been ripped off (or my family for that matter).

Good post and i 100% agree...some things in life you cant put a price on and one of them is the OP,s bird bought him a gift thinking it would be usefull and thats top shelf in my books

She is canny, i think you guys are right in the grant scheme of things. It's the thought that counts.

BTW, i am a fan of aldi. Especially the made in germany tools ;-D

Hang about, what are you trying to say? I've got 3 of those hacksaws hung up in the shed (might be chucked on the bench though) bought in the '70s I think.

There's a pair of Gilbow snips there that would cost you £30 and all the rest are under £1 each so I wouldn't beat myself up about it. I still use a couple of hacksaw frames same as those, one is Eclipse and the other is a Greyhound brand and they are both still good.

Be wary of using chisels with mushroomed heads, if one bit flys off, it could take your eye out.

I would say if you tried to buy the bits individually, it would cost you a lot more, as Pedro said the Gilbow's are expensive, if the Stilsons are good quality they would be a lot as well. If the files are sharp, it's all useful stuff. Give the girl a kiss & crack out a decent bottle of red

you was the one "banging on about old tools" so as a kind thought she got you some, you`ve got a good one there (gf) so dont knock it, most would be getting rid of old tools, now you can go out and buy her a collection of shoes and handbags

Yes they could.

I'd say that if start pricing up the cost of buying all those bits at say mediocre quality you'd very quickly hit £80...!
Maybe a little steep, but you've got a fair bit of stuff.
